Was It Something That I Said?

I am fairly new to Calguns but not new to firearms or Forums. I have recently had a frustrating and disappointing experience on the Calguns Retail Forum trying to buy a listed firearm (PPT).

I was and am interested in a certain model off-list firearm that I have been trying to acquire for some time. One was listed for sale but the listing had been bumped several times with apparently no interest by other members and I wasn't sure the item was still for sale.
I asked in the offer to sell posting if the item was still available. No answer from the Seller and about a half hour later someone else posted that they had PM'ed an offer. I then immediately PM'ed the Seller with an offer.

I have PM'ed the Seller several times since, asking for the status of the item. What is disturbing is that I have yet to hear anything. Nada. If I was beaten to the punch because I didn't submit my offer to buy when I first posted that's understandable- I should have but I wasn't sure the item was still active. What I can't understand is the complete silence on the part of the seller. I checked his Seller stats and Buyers' comments and he seems to be an excellent Seller (and Buyer). Did I somehow offend or violate some Forum rule?

Don't mean to point fingers or come off as a whiney loser but this has me really upset.

This usually means they have not logged in since you messaged them, or it's not available any more and they are too cool to tell you.

Don't take it personal, some of them are going to get away.

Some folks are only polite when they want/need something from you......not saying that's the case here but sometimes that's just way it is. Other times, new members tend to get ignored since they're more inclined to tire kick and not go through with the sale. Not really something to be upset about though. I'm sure you'll find it again if you're patient enough.

Thanks for your thoughtful answers. Living in San Diego County means that driving to a seller for a PPT pretty much means the LA area, which is several hours away since there doesn't seem to be much seller activity here. I guess I'll post a WTB.

and then again, some people just don't have any common decency, even here on CG's.

Don't let it get to you. Many possibilities of what happened and none are worth your frustration or anger.

If an item has been in the marketplace for some time (and isn't on the first page), it's ALWAYS best to just PM the seller directly.

The last thing you want to do is bump the thread and put it back on the first page. That will just get more people looking at it and possibly buying it from under you.

This has become more and more true over the past few years.

If you click on the seller's name and select "View Public Profile" it will tell you the last time that the seller was logged on to Calguns.

It's normal for internet sales, I've sold a lot of items over the years on forums. I wouldn't take it personal, everybody sales and buys differently or even at times where they think they will make the money the quickest.

I just got a PM from the Seller saying the gun had been sold. Apparently he had been out running errands all day. I went ahead and posted a WTB in the appropriate Forum- we'll see what develops. I'm not angry, just disappointed. Bender152's suggestion is a good one-thanks to all who answered my somewhat lame post. It's a real PITA living in the PRofC where we can't buy off-list handguns from the regular auction sites, but then again, you know that.

Should have just posted "I'll take it." Then you've got dibs and you can always back out later. I believe forum rules say first "I'll take it" posted wins the item regardless of pm's. Still no guarantee but better than just inquiring.

Next time post I'll take it then shoot a pm. If no answer then he's being an as* postin the wtb section and cross your fingers. In the mean time just keep searching. Good luck and sorry for your bad experience.
