    Private firearm sales?

If a gun is not on the handgun roster list could I just purchase a gun through a private firearms sale? For example I know the XDM is not on the list but If I am correct I could purchase this handgun through a private firearm sale but would then have to convert the magazine to a 10 round mag. So in other words I could purchase a handgun by private firearm sale and it would be ok? Unless they only have mags over 10 rounds then I would have to convert it to a 10 round mag.

The "private firearm sale" would be a Private Party Transfer in which both parties must be CA residents. In that case, any mags would already be 10-round mags to be legal in CA...
