Won a Ruger SR-22 at the Antelope Valley dinner last year. I think is it the second largest dinner in the western area. Good food, raffle, and auctions. Every year I have made new shooting friends.

I had never been to one until recently when I volunteered to help out. Setting up for dinner, running one of the raffle games and cleaning up. It drew a pretty good size crowd, had good food and really was just a way to raise as much money as possible. Silent auctions, live auctions and raffles galore. As I found out, Friends of the NRA raise money for various good programs as has been mentioned earlier and no money raised goes to any administration costs.
I would say that it appeared that everybody was enjoying themselves and lots of people went home with some very good things. I'd recommend going but bring $$,cheapest raffle tix were $10 up to $100.

However on a national level the NRA has done more to protect your "rights" than any other group. Congressmen have often stated that they have not supported a bill or not done something or did something as they fared the backlash they word get from the NRA and its members. On that front numbers are of upmost importance.
So I still maintain that I and other NRA members are carrying your(and other non-members) butts at the national level. Become a member then do not disappear as that is not as much help as is needed. Join and get out there with the phone calls, letters, emails and other items reqiuring your time if you truly want to be helpfull in keeping our rights.
Yes you do not have to go to church to believe in God. However you also do not have the rights to believe in God taken away as you do your gun rights.
You are so wrong about misinformation/bully stuff which shows you really know little about the NRA or what they do for you even when you do not support them. Unlike your(and mine)taxes which often go to people I did not elect to spend in ways I(and you) disaprove of. At least with the NRA you are giving money to those whose cause(purpose) is in line with your beliefs and desires. Without the NRA you would be much more screwed than you are now about gun rights/laws.

Numbers matter to your elected officials and can sway their votes either for you or against you.

The worse thing about firearm owners is they are fragmented and only think of their little part of the whole picture. Example: I personally could care less about "black rifles" or trap shooting/shotguns. BUT I will support anything that helps those people and work against anything which would reduce their rights. Too bad more of them did not feel the same about ownership of 50bmg rifles or bear hunting or mountian lion huntingor the phoney condor thing etc. So those that were effected were jacked over by the state. This has also gone on at a national level such as carry in national parks etc. We need to suppost the whole pictue and not just the little part that we personally are interested in.

So do not join but do not try and blow smoke up my rear about me not carrying your butt and you are truly doing your part. This is my last public response so say what you want if you feel a need to.

Not pushy or bully-e huh? He asks a simple question about the NRA and here you come with the "your not doing your part" and "either part of the problem or partof the solution" nonsense. It's awesome that you feel strongly about the NRA but you don't need to Guilt Trip anyone into joining your organization. If it was just about members , membership would be free. If it was just about the love of the sport, membership would be free. If it was just about getting together with like minded folks, guess what, membership would be free.
I'm not saying the NRA is bad , but your recruitment shpeel needs work.
