    WHAT'S IT WORTH?!

WTB an owner's broken ak, what's it worth?

I thought this might be a good thread for people to see how much their guns are worth.

In my case, i'm looking to buy a used standard romanian wasr 10. It's a range gun, has had thousands of rounds through it without cleaning. The gas piston needs to be replaced. The owner told me he would give me a good deal.

I was thinking of offering no more than $250 for it... That fair?

    Sooo... WHAT'S IT WORTH?

I would offer $200, and at max pay $250 if the only thing wrong with the gun is that it needs a new piston.

Awesome, thanks alfred. I figure a new piston, rivet drilling fixture, rivets and such will cost me about $50 or so bucks anyway, assuming thats the only thing need replacing. Cheers!

thats exactly how i figured it, and with a $250-$300 investment, you have a pretty good AK

Are you sure thats all that is wrong with it or are you going by what he says? Why I say that is if its only a gas piston then why doesn't the owner fix the piston and then charge more. I mean even a well used AK sells for 4-5 something. Now did he make the offer of 200 or 250 or are you asking what you should offer the guy. Did the owner give you a price.

If i was the owner I would cut it up and sell it as a parts kit and get more than $250 for it.

He hasn't made me an offer yet, i'm going to first inspect it, test fire it, and then we'll probably work something out. I don't know man, you have a good point, but i'm not the owner.

I think he just wants to get rid of it. He's had it for at least a decade, the last few years sitting in a safe i'm sure. And during it's time as a range gun before becomming non-op, it must have gone through thousands of rounds without any oiling or maintenance. Trasnporting it was throwing it in the bed of the pickup with a dozen other long guns.

People already ask way too much for their used guns man. You see it everyday on the private firearm sales thread. With a brand new piston installed- you would pay 4-500 bucks on a beat up ak range gun? Not I.

This exactly, you can buy a brand new one for $400-$500...

No you're right I wouldn't pay 500 for a well used AK. But lets face it most guns in the for sale forum are barely shot. They may as well be 98% condition guns. Anyway this isn't about what sells on the forum and condition.

From the sound of it it may be a total well abused beater. If the guy just threw it in the back of the truck and then drove off without any protection to the gun I don't even know if I would bother trying to buy it. Anyone that mistreats things like that is a idiot. I know it a AK and its cheap etc but abusing something for the sake of abusing it is silly IMO.

You sure you wanna buy it? For 250 if you gotta throw 200 into it because it needs a new barrel bolt and piston you might as well just buy new. Thousands of rounds without cleaning is not a big deal IMO. Mistreatment and neglect however IS a big deal.

Since you shed some more light on the condition I would seriously not offer more than $100 for it.

I agree completely, but as the OP stated, all it needs is a new piston. he should definitely clean it, check the barrel and action, and make sure that it fires with some degree of accuracy and than make the offer to purchase.

What are you going to drill and re-rivet in order to replace the piston?

The piston, which will fall out if you strip the rifle and jiggle it.

Just wondering (what the heck you are thinking).
