    PPT vs. Commercial Transfer Question

Greetings Fellow Calgunners -- I have a question regarding a firearm that I have purchased but have not yet transferred/DROS'd.

I bought the handgun online and had it sent to a local FFL about a month ago, but do not want it anymore and would rather get something else. My question is this: Can I sell this gun without ever taken possession of it, and if so, would it be considered a commercial transfer or PPT for the buyer?

Otherwise, is my only other option to transfer/dros the firearm, wait ten days, and then sell it as a PPT? Please advise...any feedback is much obliged.

It does not need to be drosd to you, but no it is not a ppt.

      PPT vs. Commercial Transfer Question

I just went to Ammo Bros. and they told me I would have to transfer and DROS the gun and then wait 10 days to begin a PPT. That doesn't sound right but what options do I have

You had the firearm shipped to them in your name so it is clearly their policy that it gets dros'ed to you.

Legally, however, you can find a buyer for it and authorize the FFL to transfer it to them instead of you.

Either way, it's NOT a PPT. PPT's are a special California-only transfer. In this case, you're selling the gun but it's still going to be a standard dealer transfer and the dealer in this case can still charge whatever their dealer transfer fee is above and beyond the DROS fee.

Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I'm obliged to do do what's right by California law. I love this state and will do whatever it takes to stay right. Even if it costs me kablinky.

I wish we could have more sensible laws.

Sig 229R -- 9mm -- accepted by our Armed Forces -- Not trying to do anything fancy or sexy. Just trying to sell something that I need less than other might need more.
