    Scopes for AR-15

Hey guys I just want to know your thoughts on a good scope? Something not overly priced but not cheap either. I just plan on using it for range shooting. Any information will help.

    At what distances?

If < 200 yards, just get a quality red dot - a used Aimpoint/EOTech/Trijicon will do nicely.

If greater than 200, and less than 500, a Leupold Mark AR is a good scope. I'd runsomething stronger on MY Mk.12 build... assuming I had a clear field of vision BEYOND 300 yards where I live. If the flag went up today, terrain features & buildings make it impossible to SEE - much less, HIT - something beyond those ranges - even from the roof!

Just keep in mind - there's CHEAP glass, and there's QUALITY glass... and never the 'twain shall MEET!

Thanks for the info. Mostly I'll be shooting 200 yards. But there will be times where I'll shoot over that.

I find my self with 1.4x4 with banner from bushnell fine for my type of shooting .
i had 3x9 as well , but scope was too long . just wasnt balanced in cosmetic wise .
I have no problem hitting 12inch plates with banner upto 200 yards . havent try beyond 200

great scope for money tho . i heard primary arms makes good scopes as well

I plan to get the new Nikon P223 3-9x40, it is only 199 and has some really neat features. Great for paper at 100 yards and for steel out to 600 yards.

Acogs are very nice. Was looking at them. But they are out of my budget. I'm in Modesto.

I have both the Nikon 223 scope and the Leupold Mark AR. Both very nice scopes, spending $1200 on an ACOG didn't appeal to me for my purposes. I'm thinking about getting one of the new Leupold Patrol VX-R scopes, it is highly reviewed and seems like it would be great for short to medium distances. Costs about $500, so not inexpensive, but not ridiculously expensive either.
