    i want a MP-40

I am new and figured this might be best place for this.
I would like a MP-40 and of course it has to be CA legal. Does anyone know where i can get one that works? I dont mind if it's a modern made one it doesnt have to be from WW2(be illegal anyway). I have always liked it and just want one for my collection. any help would be nice

I'd love one myself, but the only way your going to get one and staying legal here in the PRK is a Tokyo Marui airsoft. Marui MP40

They're so damn good even Grannies like em.

A few of the semi MP40s I believe made it in to PRK along with a few MP44s before the rug was pulled... They show up once in awhile on GB. Like the AK under folders, the stocks are fixed... When I rent the real thing at reenactments we often get to fire them live after...

The MP-38/40 is not the best SMG. You can do a lot better if you want a 9mm trench broom. The MP-40 has the looks, but it has issues like the mags & wobbly stock. AFAIK none are used in SMG competitions, other than in historical matches. FYI, DCSF magazines are not the best idea in a SMG. DCDF or a drum is much better. Try loading a 32 round MP-40/STEN mag without a loading tool. The 50 round Lancaster or Neuhausen mags are crazy to load.

Not sure how much you know, but it is 100% legal in CA to own registered machine guns. The catch is that you can only own one with a now almost impossible to get CA DOJ permit. AFAIK (been told this by many long ago by old time dealers & collectors, most of whom are gone now) Republican Gov Reagen stopped regular people from getting state MG permits after RFK was assassinated in 1968. Rich/elite/politically connected can maybe still get them & movie prop companies. The old permits are still grandfathered in as long as you don't loose your gun rights. Class 3 dealers & manufactures can still get CA MG permits. It's too bad that there is not much "institutional knowledge" about MG ownership in CA. It would be neat to study, like the old NFA stuff.

Then you have the NRA/Republican supported '68 GCA & '86 FOPA, which banned the future importation and then the US manufacturing of transferable machine guns. Reagen must have really hated civilian ownership of machine guns a lot. The 5/19/1986 machine gun ban was a reaction to the Miami/Cubano drug wars. It was hyped to the congress that registered legal machine guns were being used in the drug wars. The fact is only 1 known case of a registered transferable machine gun that was used in a murder. That happened 2 years after FOPA. In 1988 Roger W Waller an off duty cop used his personal registered & transferable MAC-11, that he was illegally carrying to murder a suspected drug dealer/CI that he was attempting to rob. AFAIK there are a little under 250,000 registered transferable machine guns in the US. Prices started to rise dramatically in the late 1990's, due to limited supply & a growing demand. Even the non C&R "tube" guns are worth stupid money now & hard to find for sale. Unless 922o is rescinded or another amnesty is held, bot of which W Bush could have easily done for the 4 years that the Republicans controlled the Congress, civilian machine gun ownership will be restricted for the rich. That was the exact intent of the 1934 NFA, BTW. The $200 transfer tax was aprox. 1/2 the cost of a new model A Ford back in 1934.

If you can settle for a semi auto version of the MP-40, SSD in Germany makes a modern clone. IO imported some a few years ago. Unsoeld/922R make them a hassle to import. You could make one CA legal with a bullet button & a 10 round magazine. You may have to do something about the 30" OAL, not sure how long a 16" barrel MP-40 would be. The price of a MP-40 kit is stupid money now. In 1993 OOW sold registered Wilson MP-40 tubes for like $500. They sold MP-40 kits for like the same price. Marked mags were $15 or 10 for $100. The Soumi KP-31, Beretta 38A and the Soumi KP-44 are much better 9mm WWII SMGs due to the magazines. The post war Swedish K M-45 is a sweet shooter & you can get a mag well adapter to use the Soumi 72 rd drum. If you want a 7.62x25mm SMG, the PPSH-41 & PPS-43 are great shooters. The Germans did use captured PPSH-41s. Watch the movie Cross Of Iron. You can buy a semi/16" PPSH-41 upper for cheap. The Russian copy of the 72 round Soumi drum will fit the PPSH-41, but not the PPS-43. The history of the PPS-43 is very cool. I'd take advantage of the cheap SMG kit prices of today.
