Need info on Browning Hi Power.

Hello, I have a Browning Hi Power
Says-- Browning Arms St Louis Mo & Montreal PQ

    Made in Belgium

    Serial T23099_

Would like to know what year, class the pistol is. Also a rough estimate of what it's value? I don't know enough about them, and would like to know some info on this old pistol.

All depends on the condition. The blue book is your friend.
WTB: French & Finnish firearms. WTS: raw honey, tumbled .45 ACP brass, stupid cat.

You would seem to have what Browning guys call a "T-series"---in good original shape, these are valued up about $800-950 or even more if mint with pouch and book.

The GP-35 is one of the best military combat pistols ever made. JMB & DS did a great job improving the 1911. IMO only the Glock is a better military combat pistol. As to value, what condition is it in? Does it have the original barrel, mags & grips? Look for the dancing man proof mark on the non blued barrel. The mags have no markings & use a black plastic follower. The grips should be checkered wood, that are painted red on the inside with crayon markings. It should come stored a black leatherette zipper pouch with a red cloth liner.

How worn is it on the inside? Does the barrel, slide breech face & hammer show much use? If it looks like it has had a lot of rounds put through it, you need to check the length of the recoil spring. That is very critical on a high power. Are you thinking of selling it?

Everything is original, and the barrel and slide have all the proof marks. The pistol has very clean internals, some minor wear on the slide and front grip area. The inside grips do have the red crayon markings. The mag is original. Barrel is clean as well. Thank you on the
            Detailed information.

** Mods I'm gonna post 2 pics from photobucket, because I don't have my PC or Laptop connected. If
Someone can re post them great**

I don't have the original pouch, only one from Bianchi.

              Here's the other side

Very nice piece. If you plan to keep & use it, I'd get a set of repo grips, and store the originals. Do a good touch up cold blue job on the slide. If you plan to shoot normal loads, check your recoil spring free length. New is 115mm + & FN set the wear limit at 105mm. If you plan to shoot hot loads, you may want to get an aftermarket 18.5# or 20# recoil spring, like a Wolff or Brownells. The factory spring is 17#. The T series doesn't seem to have issues with the original spring wearing out from standard loads, like the other HP's sometimes do. A Cylinder & Slide spring tool helps with the heavier springs. Make sure that the recoil spring guide rod is installed correctly. It can be installed upside down. The rod should be parallel to the barrel, not canted. Avoid shooting the lame 147 grain rounds.

If you want to improve the trigger pull, you can get a Cylinder & Slide trigger that does away with the stupid Belgium/French military contract required magazine disconnect. You can also get another factory trigger & weld or braze the magazine plunger/push "rod" to the in/rear position. Doing that will also keep the magazines from getting a rub mark on the front & lets them drop free when released. When you move out of Ca, get some of the 15/17 round KRD mags. They work great for me.

Thank you for the info ClarenceBoddicker, I like this old piece, wish it had fewer marks on it, but it is very nice. I'll enjoy it and pass it down later on.

Once again thank you, and I'll look into the info you gave me. Take care acaligunner

If you're looking for a buyer let me know. I've been looking for a nice BHP for awhile so send me a PM if you're interested in selling it. I live in San Diego.
