    Ammo Storage

I have surplus .50 cal cans that I painted and labeled. Initially I just neatly stacked ammo boxes within the cans, but recently I dumped all the boxes and just have loose ammo. Its definitely easier to get to, but my only concern is mixing different ammo specs within the same can, e.g. 55 gr .223 Federal mixed with 62gr 5.56 M855. Or 115gr 9mm mixed with 127 gr p+ 9mm.

So, what is your preferred method of storing ammo?

You need more ammo cans. Keep the same stuff in each can to avoid confusion. If put different stuff in a can, I will leave it in its original box or even the plastic boxes used to store reloads.

The 30 caliber cans are thinnner but can store a bunch off ammo if it is holding loose ammo. Also easier to move the 30 caliber cans when full because they weigh less.

In the boxes it came, plastic reload boxes & scrounged factory boxes from the range trash. These get stored in the GI ammo cans.

The only loose ammo I store is in plastic bins from Walmart. They are usually my standard target reloads so they refill the boxes as the boxes get emptied.

I just have different cans for evert different specific ammo. 5.56 vs .223 etc. I've seen dividers by one company but can seem to find it now. Not trays, I'm talking about vertical dividers.

This is simple. Get more cans. If not, use ziplock bags and write on them, put inside can.

              Done.

Dumpster dive for the foam trays commercial ammo comes in. I print labels to stick on the side that states bullet weight, powder, powder weight & type of primer. When I go the range a I just grab what I think I will shoot.

I have a truck box full of ammo in their original boxes. I put a rechargeable desiccant in there. All is good.
