    Ordered some 7.62x39 yesterday

Thing is I have nothing chambered in that round. AK47 seems like the simplest solution. Also looking at 7.62x39 AR uppers. $700 max budget.

Would I have fun with an SKS?

A SKS can be a lot of fun! So can AK Featureless Dumping Mags like a Free Man! You can learn a lot about the gun building it yourself. I suggest a Nodak Spud Reciever for First Time Builders.

I never liked the SKS until I bought one. Feels like a great rifle. Buy one for cheap and shoot the crap out of it and don't think twice about it.
Will trade liquor/wine/beer for parts and accesories and ammo! PM me. Dont drink n shoot. Offer void where prohibited. Must be 21 or older, etc. etc.

Do it right and you can get an AK and an SKS for $700.

You can get Saigas already half converted now, I am considering another one myself.

What kind of 7.62x39 ammo did you order?

Try one, you will not be disappointed. I bought my first SKS in '91 from Turner's. Chinese and buried in cosmoline, it was the best $122 I ever spent. I love that freaking gun. Accurate as hell. Not one FTF or FTE. This is the last gun I would ever sell.

For $700 you can buy an SKS and another 2K rounds of ammo. Great thing to have.

The Yugo SKS is a great rifle, so are the Russian built. Problem is they are getting pricey, though I still run across them for $300.

I paid $200 for my Yugos about 7 years ago. That was then, this is now.

Truth be told this guy has caught my eye:

If I'm stuck with 10 rounds anyway, might as well get a beefy bench shooter and blow my whole budget.
