308win Rifle or Ar style please help!

Ok so i want a 308win Rifle and i am split between a classic 308 style rifle or a AR style 308 i hope to find some one on here to help me learn more about them both and if i go with the AR style i would like to build one if it saves me money but like i said i hope some one on here knows this field better than me. PS i would use this rifle to shoot some pigs at some point. If you can help i would appreciate it thank you!!

Depends on what u r planning on doing with it. Bolt action .308 are a great hunting rifle for deer and up, likewise with the AR10 style. Some states have regs on how many rounds can be in a magazine/rifle for hunting. AZ actually has a 5 puns max for hunting. If u r going to hunt there then u would need to block out a magazine to 5 rounds. Most of te bolt action rifles are topped out at 5 rounds.

A bolt action will generally be more accurate than a semi auto based on the action an functional difference of te rifles. U can get a semi-auto to be just as accurate but tht is with some elbow grease and deep pockets most of the time. You can get a good nail driver bolt action alot cheaper than u will e able to pick up or build an AR10 style rifle.

I reccomend "if your doing table tac driving" to get a Remington 700 SPS Tactical, comes in 18 20 and 24 inch BDL barrels. One of those with a nice bipod and scope and your set, the gun has a very smooth and confortable stock.

do make sure you break it in and get the spiral cut in the barrel to get max performance out of it without adding attachments etc.

You cannot go wrong with a Tikka or even a savage/mossberg/stevens in 308 topped with a Leupold 3X9X40 or 3.5X10X40 scope. Makes a rifle you can shoot for fun and hunt with real well if you just add a sling. It is also a rifle that will serve you trouble free for life. I really like my 2 Tikka's and so does anyone who shoots them. Super accurate out of the box and no need to spend money on alot of extras to get them to shoot/work well.

If your going to hunt I would go with a bolt action. It's lighter than an AR-10. Even with a good sling at the end of the day the AR-10 is heavy.
Yes I have carried both rifles all day.

My Larue OBR was $2900 fully loaded minus optic and Rem 700 police model bolt gun was about $900, $149 for surefire brake, $85 to thread the barrel, $250 for badger mag kit, $80 for badger scope rail. Roughly half the cost and definitely half the fun of my 308 gas gun.

Ya i have a similar set-up, i have a REPR and a Marlin XS7 in .308. theyre both fun, but nothing can compare to shooting that REPR and getting tighter groups than the bolt gun. but there are definitely distinctive uses for each rifle. i wouldnt take my REPR out on a pig or deer hunt.
