Wind and shooting

I have 2 new long guns to sight in and one function test to perform. Today was crap because winds were 10-20 mph. Tomorrow looks like 5-10 so its looking like a go. At what point do you call off a range trip?

I wanted to sight in my 257Roberts that just came back with a new Douglas match grade barrel but will wait for a better day myself also. Today I will just load ammo for my squirrel shoot.

what range (distance) are u shooting at? and also, i dont call off range days because of wind. maybe pouring rain, but wind is a good way to practice reading the wind.

For sighting in?

I'm with OP here. If you want to sight in a rifle, it's best to do it on a windless day. If you're just out practicing, then yeah, it would be a good day to test your windage skills.

If you get the Outdoor Channel on Comcast you should check out a show called
"Best of the West". They provide a lot of good tips on long range shooting and doping the wind.

I forget who it is but they also advertise a dvd by a respected shooter that goes through the fundementals of long range/sniper shooting.
