Georgia Senate Committee votes to NOT destroy seized guns

Last week, the Georgia Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously passed S.B. 350, a bill that would require law enforcement agencies throughout the state to sell seized firearms not being held as evidence at a public auction to a licensed firearms dealer. Current Georgia law allows for the immediate destruction of seized arms.
Why can't we get some of that common sense in CA???

    AHhh my eyes... burning guns...

Localities would be enabled with the ability to reap the benefits of the sale proceeds and consumers would have access to affordable firearms through licensed dealers, with all of the usual safeguards that apply to dealer sales to the public
CA (and the Anti2A folk) would rather go broke than do something right.

Good for GA, good for the citizens, and good for the lawmakers that put this through!

They treat the guns worse than the criminals who used them.

so......what about firearms with serial numbers removed?

re-stamp it with a "police" serial number and resell it? if it comes back in another crime, re-stamp & re-sell it or destroy it?

why not?? just keep selling it and eventually it will find a permanent home. They could buy them for a $100 gift card and sell them for a profit to those of us who really want them. This might help drive the cost of new guns down too since they'd be competing with a larger used market.

of course, even if you say "guns recovered by police officers from crime scenes can be sold for a substantial profit to the agency while reducing the overall cost associated with storing and destroying the guns"....
all the CA law makers are going to hear is "GUNS blah blah blah blah blah CRIME blah blah blah blah blah blah DEAD BABIES blah blah blah blah blah blah blah YOUNG BLACK MALE blah blah blah blah blah blah blah DESTROYING blah GUNS!!!"

So i suspect very strongly that this wont come to CA any time soon

Possessing a gun with the serial number removed is a crime, so pretty sure it's staying in the evidence locker.

hence the 07FFL which would allow the police to engrave a new serial number and re-sell it.

I thought, it was more akin to witch burning, myself. Or rather, burning the witch's familiar.

I'm surprised the Brady's don't gather around gun burnings and give the anti's salute (demonstrated below)

+1 this ^...besides, as much as CA cries about budget woes stop SPENDING money to destroy the firearms and start EARNING revenue by selling them.
