Back to basics on the 1911. Changed the mainspring housing back to flat.

So I bought my Kimber from another Calguns member back in 2009. Great gun and never ever had any failures with it.

Accurate and comfortable more than any other handgun I've had, but the arched mainspring housing never felt right to me.

I finally get a 30lpi Rock River Arms flat mainspring housing and it feels so much better to me than the arched mainspring housing.

I also went and changed the grips to Cocobolo....also an improvement to me

I’m a fan of the flat MSH, they usually fit my hand/grip better. Looks good OP!

"Back" to basics? You know the originals were arched, right?

Good call on the grips. Black grips on a black 1911... meh. Those Cocos... SEXAY!

Watcha gonna do with that arched MSH?

        Actually, the originals were flat.

I put flat mainspring housings, thin grips and short triggers on all my "shooter" 1911 variants.

          I like arched.

Those Cocobolo grips are beautiful! Definitely adds the "sexy" factor!

              Nice looking Kimber.

You should use what you find the best fit.

Mine all have flat mainspring housings and most have slim grips.

As I recall, the change from flat to arched was made to correct a tendency of recruits to shoot low with the 1911.

I read they shot low due to people being more used to the arched grip of a revolver back then.

Plus everyone pretty much shot 1 handed back then anyways. I don't think they thought up the weaver or isosceles grip yet back then.

Yes, in a natural grip...for folks who don't have a lot of experience with handguns...the flat MSH will point low.

The A1 modifications also added the:
                    a. longer tang gripsafety - to prevent hammer bite
                    b. short trigger - for the more common hand size and finger reach
                    c. relief cuts behind trigger guard - for trigger finger clearance

back of the gun, base of the grip. in the picture of 1911 vs 1911A1 it's bottom right.

The arched MSH fits the hand best for moi.
