I have noticed a huge shift in the AR department for people selling uppers and parts for AR's. One guy in particular says he makes his own barrels and for other companies as well but refuses to give names only that they are "big name companies". He is the asian guy with his son at the shows. There is a family, I think they are european, and some other guys that sell stuff with no names and no markings as well.I have noticed that they are selling M16 auto bolts for $80.They look poor in quality and finish. Now I build custom AR's for people all the time and even fix the problems they have with them.I don't think I would even buy anything from these people with confidence in the product. Now I am not a name whore by any means and don't need colt or noveske exclusively to build the "best" AR. I am well aware of the manufacturers and the roll marks put on to market for other companies. My question is has anybody actually bought any of these uppers from these people, because I never see them actually selling anything, and if so, how is the quality and reliability? I see alot of tire kickers and people looking at them but then they wander off and no sales. Also there is a couple of guys selling YHM barrels and rails attached to a no markings upper receiver trying to pass them off as YHM complete factory uppers. How are these guys getting away with this stuff at shows or are people just that naieve when it comes to this stuff?

There sure is a lot of junk to sift through if you're looking for something specific. I wouldn't buy any integral parts from these guys, I'd rather get it from a reputable dealer so I know its for real.
I think I know who the guy is you're talking about, i bought a carry handle from him at vallejo and got a good price, and the part seems solid.
I just cant feel comfortable spending several hundred on something that has a big chance of being a knock off. Plus, if something is wrong with the part I doubt the gun show booth guys have any customer service for you. I'm sure there are a few people that get screwed on purchases at the gunshows.
