Nice. I got mine yesterday too. It's going on one of my extra POF receivers. Just waiting on the rest of the parts to build the lower. And then some extra money to order the Timney trigger. I'll use my Stag upper for now, but eventually want a VIS-3 w/ 18" barrel for it.

The stock feels very solid. I definately like it more than my CTR. I especially like the release lever. I'll probably take the storage doors off though.

The stock is about a 3/4 of a pound heavier than the CTR (complete with buffer tube and all) and feels quite a bit more hefty.

Pros:
- Improved cheekweld, I'm still hoping for another cheekpiece ala SOPMOD.
- Preset is well concieved and easy to use and much more robust than on the M93b
- Has quite a bit of modularity and probably a myriad of future upgrades.
- QD sling mount points are a joy to use
- Rubber buttpad makes it very comfortable like the CTR
- A finer range of adjusment and will suit anyone preference
- Feels like it will be able to deliver a nice buttstroke (and even better when the aluminum strike plate becomes available)
- Improves the balance of a front heavy rifle (railed and HBAR rejoyce)

Cons:
- Does not lock up as solid as the M93b (but still light years ahead of everything else)
- Cheekweld is still lacking compared to SOPMOD
- Will destroy the balance of most regular carbines that isn't front heavy
- Latch could be longer or a better front surface to aid in activation
- Mechanism still seems a bit complicated but simpler than the M93b
- Still a bit too heavy

Overall this stock is definately a niche market product. If you have a regular carbine and don't mind a little stock wiggle than a SOPMOD is still superior simply for the cheekweld. The CTR also offers 80% of what the UBR offers at a much lighter weight. However, if your the type that demands the absolute best and most robust stock available than this is in a class of it's own. This is aimed at the targe shooter and the grunt that likes to bash his stock into things. The lock up alone makes it worthwhile for me since I personally hate any movement in stocks. Hell the little wiggle the CTR has bother's me and that thing locks up pretty nicely.

This is definately not for someone who's new to the AR world. You will want to try out the fixed stocks (A2, A1, Sully, ACE) and the normal lighter weight options (CAR, M4, SOPMOD, VLTOR, CTR) before you step up to the UBR. Your rifle should also be built in a very specific manner to suit this stock as any regular carbine will simply suck with this thing on it. But for all those who loves all the rail, VFG, light, laser doodads and don't mind lugging a 10 lbs carbine around (the weight of my Carbine FAL) than it's perfect.

If this review deter's you from buying this stock than you really shouldn't buy it. This stock is for people who know's exactly what they want, not for someone waiting for favorable reviews or wanting to try different stock for feel.

thanks for the review. I definitly want one. I am sure magpul will be addressing these issues before full production starts to run. can't wait to get one.

Magpul will definately address all the concerns, I just like to have the pre-production models as I have had the M93 and CTR before this in pre-production molds too.

The preset on the UBR is the same as on the M93b. Essentially everyone has a specific length that they like their stock to extnd out to. With a small set screw you can than set the stock to that specific length so when you pull it out it will automatically stop at that position. This is probably the best feature and the "coup de grace" of the stock, you can extend the stock further out (if like me and most other's you have the preset closer in) by pressing the overide button on the side.

Yes, this stock has presets and overides, all you techno-geek should cream your pants NOW.
