    Forum buyers rant

First off, selling and buying items on this forum has for the most part has been pretty awesome. Met some really cool guys by doing it. This rant is about people that use the, I can find your item supposedly cheaper some where else and I'll give you that minus 25%. I find it one of the most insulting negotiation tactics that I get constantly when I try to sell something. 9 and out of 10 times, it's total bs because they don't factor in shipping, transfer fees, tax(if applicable), or they just think they can get it for that "cheaper" price. If they could get my item cheaper some where else, they wouldn't even be contacting me. Even if they could find it cheaper, they should just ask if I'll take a certain number. A simple, "Would you take x amount?". I'm not a retail store, I don't do price match. I'm all for negotiating, but it just annoys me when people try to lower my price by saying they can get an item I'm selling some where else cheaper. If you want to start off negotiations with that line, I'll always tell you to buy it there. End of rant.

Sounds like you've got it all figured out. I'd do the same thing.

An offer is an offer. I find it easy to just so no thank you.

KracknCorn I feel your pain. I absolutely hate people that bring that up. As an example, I was recently selling an XD9SC, was asking $500 with 5 magazines, 4 of which had pearce pinky extensions. Got several PMs telling me that I should take $100 less because they could go buy it at Turners for $420 brand new. Not counting that mine came with $90 in magazines and $30 in pinky extensions or that the new one came with an extra $40 in sales tax...So I explained those facts to them and told them if they didn't like my price to go kick rocks.

Best thing I have found to add to a FS post is "Willing to negotiate, but please don't insult me with your offer because I will insult your intelligence" Usually keeps the idiots you are referring to away.

The other side to this argument is when you get the people on here selling something that is now off list like the Ruger LCP, a gun that sold for around $400 and they are asking $600 for it now. Although I just move along, I typically will only PM someone if I like the price they are asking or I make an offer that is usually within $25 or so of what they are asking. Why piss off and insult someone you KNOW owns a gun? LOL

Ive got a long gun that Im constantly think about selling. If and when I do, Ill put 'please do not offer me less.' If I lower the price, I will lower it as I do not need to sell the gun. With that said, accessories are worth the same as on cars. Unfortunately they are nearly worthless. Half price at best. Your best bet is to make the gun as stock as possible and sell the goodies separately. What is cool to you is tacticool to the nest guy.

I dont dig the clowns selling off roster, NIB handguns for hundreds over retail. But thats the system, doesnt mean I have to buy it.

Yawn, cool story though. If your gonna post on there then just blow if off. It wont change, why raise your blood pressure over it. A simple no thanks works awesome.

I see too often people asking too much for a USED item or new parts/reloading stuff. I just pass on them and figure if someone else will pay it good for the seller. But I will not even bother with it. As has been pointed out the accessories and mods may have cost alot but they are worth very little when reselling. If you want to make more with a rifle and scope sell them seperate. A scope is only worth about $50 on a rifle. It does not matter that you paid $300+ for it.
If you really want to sell ammo/reloading stuff them about 50% of new is the going rate. I laugh when I see ammo/primer/bullets etc at full retail or evenmore than I can buy local just because they bought it during the "cannot find and very high priced scrambles" Thinks they would make money on it and now do not need it. Kind of like the housing market rise and bust.
As also said some people post items they do not care if or if not they sell. They will only sell at the price they want and it is often too high. That is their choice and a buyers choice to buy or not. No need for fight or insults.

So if you are unwilling to deal then just say price firm. If you feel the price is too high and you can do better somewhere else just move on and buy somewhere else. If you are lying and just want to badger the seller just keep it to yourself and laugh at their add. However if the price is close to what you will pay politely ask if they sill deal and give a realistic price for the item. This is what I do.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

I have even had people offer trades when the WTS said NO TRADES.

I still don't have any problem with people making offers, even trades, even I can get it cheaper at .......

I just be polite, say no thanks and move on. No point in getting pissed.

I just wanted to say that it's just stupid to add the, "I can get it cheaper some where else" line to an offer. Maybe if I was a retailer and I needed to be competitive it would work. Or if I was desperate to sell, but I'm not most of the time. I don't really care if you "think" you can get it cheaper some where else, I've posted what I wanted. It doesn't help negotiate the price down, it's just annoying. It's kind of like saying, take less money or I'll go some where else. If you want to negotiate, just throw out a number and if I like it, I'll take it or throw a counter offer. No need to treat me like I'm desperate to sell to you.

haven't had this issue here but when I was selling guitars on CL, the fastest way to my Sh*tlist was to try to renegotiate the price when we met up FTF.

once we get to that point. the price is SOLID.

I agree, it is annoying. I think you should tell them that if it does not sell today for your asking price "it's going back in the safe"...turn the tables on those cheap SOBs!

That will get them to raise their offer ASAP!

I love it when I post $300 FIRM and yet still get jackwagons saying, "you're only going to get 100 bucks for the gun so I will buy it at 50.."
