    firearm magazines

i understand this subject has been done over and over, but i recently learned about repair kits for normal or as they call in cali hi cap mags.i did some research called some gun stores and most people say its okay to buy and have a repair kit at your house if you have mags before the ban, then i read online that some people are buying them and keeping them dissembled at their house for who knows shtf situation i guess, it would be nice to have some dissembled 30 round ar mags but seems a little too risky as a guy i know got a felony for a 30 round ak mag but he got caught at the desert with it by rangers from what i heard.do you guys know anyone who keeps dissembled magazines at their house??or would you guys do it your self?? i hope this doesn't cause panic..thank you

That's very inquisitive for a first post. I'm curious to see how many answers you get.

Nothing wrong with buying large-cap mag rebuild kits to repair existing mags, convert into 10 round mags, or just keep on hand.

Important thing to do is not talk yourself into any trouble. Telling an officer that you have repair kits so you can assemble them into 30 round mags would get you unwanted attention. Also, don't break the law.

Since owning and using 30 round AK mags in CA is not a crime at all (assuming legally configured rifle, as in not an illegal Assault Weapon, see flowchart) there must be more to this story. Importing, selling, lending, and assembling large-cap mags as of 1/1/2000 is a crime, but all the ones already here are good to go. Opening your stupid mouth telling a ranger how you just picked up a 30 round mag in AZ, or that you just got one from a buddy, will get someone in felony style trouble.

Sounds highly likely he was busted for an illegal AW then instead.
