1980's Fontana Gun Store

Does anyone from the Inland Empire remember a gun store on the NW corner of Sierra and Foothill back in the 70's-80's? What was the name of it? I can not remember. I was just reminiscing about times when one could walk into a gun store and see bunches of detachable mag semi-auto AR's, HK's and the like hanging on the wall . They had a lot of good stuff there. I miss those times.

speaking of old fontana stuff, there used to be a family pizza shop, all the pizzas were square, think the name was mazzolies or somehting like that. man, that was some good stuff!!!!!

I used to buy archery supplies there.
They had hay bales setup where you could try out various bows.
It was setup sorta like a strip-mall, but only one entrance.
Light tan with dark brown trim.
Closed in the late 80's if I remember correctly.

I have been going up and down Sierra since about '77.
So much has changed, especially since they put all those apartments in between Arrow and Foothill.
Jackson Paint and the new feed store are still about the same though.

I still drive up and down Sierra a few times a month to go to West End Gun Club.

OK. There was another place I seem to remember further north on sierra, IIRC he did a lot of black powder stuff.

We moved out in the mid 80's. I used to buy reloading stuff at Lazio's.

Oh, I know it. I didn't go back to that area for almost 15 years after we moved, I thought I was on another planet. I truly did have to pull over and figure out where I was.

So you remember when the sundowners was smaller and still had the muskets between the booths?
When I was five, I used to stand up in the booth and pretend to shoot those muskets.

I don't know when Halbrooks opened up, but I suspect they were open in the 80's
Just east of Mango on Arrow.



Still a pretty good reloading shop.
Certainly the kind of shop where you go to spend time.
Lot's of old guys that know everything and will tell you if you pry it out of them.

They must have opened after I left. I had work done a couple of times at Arrow muffler and brake. If a gun shop was next door, I would have been in there while waiting.

Lazio's sounds familiar, could be, but I think that was further south. The one I'm thinking about was a huge white/tan building. Tons of camo clothing, archery and other sporting goods. The firearms were kept in a separate room towards Foothill. I have the name Cal's sporting goods in my head, but I'm not sure.

What ever it was we used to always stop there on our way to Lytle Creek back in the day. Then we would stop at Mexico Lindo on the way home for what Sammy Hagar said was the best burrito in the world. Now I think Joe's Mexican food rules though, but I digress. Anyway, that made for a good day.

There was Coburn's Discount Guns, it was out by the scrap yards. I bought quite a few guns there. A lot of black guns in the old days. It was on Cherry & Whittran Ave or there abouts.

Been to Halbrooks several times. He used to do the Pomona gun shows, with all his reloading stuff.

There was another gun store just West off Sierra. It was more of a Cowboy SAS type store. I forgot what street it was off. Might have been close to the Bank of America or off the street where the DMV is... Merrill or Arrow Highway/Blvd??

Coburns closed down a year or two ago.
At the end it was everything must go, even for 10 cents on the dollar, and it did.

That's the place. May have been the The Outdoorsman. The last time I was there was in the late 1980's, before I moved out of the area for a while. The time frame fits.
