Do you ever practice without your corrective eye wear when your out? I have 20/400 and I've been thinking of shooting a bit without them just in case I have to employ a firearm during the night in short notice. FWIW I did get some trigger time with no glasses and wearing a beat to crap gas mask and did fairly well (ie I hit the dang target).

Yes. I am farsighted so I can easily see the target. I just can't see the sights. Not too hard to hit at short range.sigpic -
Yeah, what ^^^^ said.
I recommend that you do not ever use your weapon unless you can clearly visually identify whether you are shooting at a hostile....Comment

I use a crimsontrace so it's not really an issue. I wear contact lenses during the day and glasses at night.
My eyesight is horrible and my contacts are set-up for 'Mono-Vision'. This means one eye for distance and one eye for near. However, my Glasses are just Progressive Bi-Focals.
I practice with contacts on some trips and glasses on others. My vision has made me slightly less accurate, but I have no trouble identifying targets.
I keep glasses and a Tac Light on my nightstand. I also agree that target id is a must. Do not ever shoot until you know what your target is.

with eyesight like that, I'd expect that you have your glasses nearby.. maybe make it a habit to put your glasses near your gunsafe at night?

Yes I do, but at longer distances, IDing targets can be a problem (near sighted).NRA Benefactor Life Member

Interesting point - I should probably try that. I don't think it will be an issue, since I can see up close just fine, but the next time I'm at an indoor range with low light I should try some with just eye protection and no glasses just to verify there are no surprises. That's the most realistic scenario since I'd most likely not have glasses for that 3AM bump in the night.Comment

I can not see anything far or close only super close about 1' from my face. Glasses are right next to my bed. I have had to put them on fast a few times and pokes myself in the eye a few times
