    Transporting Pistol

How is the proper transport of Pistol and ammo?

I usually transport my pistol inside a locked pistol case, in my range bag, placed in my car's trunk. It is legal to place my ammo on a lock ammo box placed inside the trunck too or It should be better placed in the car cabin, separate from the locked trunk.

Thanks for your comments and advice

You ammo can be loaded in the mags in the SAME locked case as your gun as long as the gun is not chambered and the mag is NOT in the gun ready to shoot.. It does not have to be in your trunk just so you know...

I personally have chosen to go the "extra careful" route in traveling between home and range, because I have over time wandered through just enough threads and posts about that rare over zealous LEO who was absent the day they taught that at the Academy, that I figure better safe than sorry.

So, I have my handguns unloaded in a locked case, and my ammo in my range bag in a compartment that has lockable zippers. But the wording of the law, if IIRC, is that ammunition can not be "attached" to the firearm in any manner.

One other item to note, is you are not supposed to transport in your vehicle's glove or utility compartment, though exactly what constitutes a utility compartment is somewhat vague. My vehicle in a SUV type, so I don't have a trunk, which is another reason I take the extra step and keep weapon and ammo locked separate from one another.

See i drive my SUV to the range as well, and usually the back is stacked full of rifle and pistol cases. for me, the ammo goes into a range bag in the front seat, while all the runs are in the back out of arms reach. With that said, ive been pulled over a few times and had the cop see into the back with all the rifle cases. one of them was cool and didnt mention it, the other wanted to see what i had. we sat there and talked and BS'ed about shooting and california's ridiculous laws for awhile and he let me go. but to answer the OP's question, put them in your trunk in a locked case. the police cant search your trunk without your consent or probable cause. but you are breaking no laws keeping them in the same case, as long as it isnt loaded
