    Oops!

So today was the day my best friend bought his gun! Well he was supposed too anyways...turns out if your name ends in "Jr" you proof of residency needs to as well...wow is cali doing everything they can to stop us from having fun!

Unexpectedly though, I ended up buying a new Ruger P345 myself! I just couldn't waste a perfectly good trip to the gun store! Plus target masters has 1 or 2 pretty good looking girls that work there! Hot!

Now I gotta wait the 10 days.

Wow, never heard of that one. I'm a III but the fact of the mater is that the suffix is not part of your name, it's a place holder. Only royalty or someone of historical significance keeps his suffix as part of their name. For us commoners, we are supposed to drop the suffix as people die. Jr becomes Sr, etc. My father is still alive but I don't use the III (it's on my DL), because there is no confusion between us. Someone needs to smarten-up the gun shop.

Actually, Jr, Sr, etc get dropped/replaced, but numbers don't. So if your son/ grandson has the same full name as you he will be IV. It's up to you whether you want that to be part of his legal name or not.
Wish I was rich instead of so damn good looking.

No, that's not right, I think. As I said it's a place holder, so the III becomes Jr. when Sr. dies. Perhaps you are thinking about a person named after their uncle, in that case it might need a unchanging placeholder but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

P.S. I read some more info on Wiki. My name goes back to the 1800s (named by my great grandfather in essence), so my family uses the rules of that time. The rules are a little looser today but it doesn't change the fact that the suffix is not part of your legal name, unless you make it so. We are free to change the suffix as we choose. So far my Dad has retained his Jr status, so I am still the 3rd but when Dad dies, I'm it and the 3rd will be dropped completely.

I use the Jr. on all documents, but not in the normal course of business. My dad died in 1999, but I have been a Jr. all my life and don't really want to change it.

You sure that the Jr. thing is a California issue, or just Target Masters being overly zealous in their paperwork??

Since I was not a Sr. until my son was born I have not had an issue but when I DROS I put my SSN on all of them so there is a distinction. Had I known what a PITA it is when you have conflicting names in 2012 I would have given him his own name... =]

maybe there is a law since you guys seem to like to make it complicated. You cant be one name now, but another later, or possibly not at all at will. You are who you are. To DROS you need documents to verify said name. If you can alter your name at will, since it is just a placeholder, why cant another. Maybe the constants in my name are merely placeholders for my vowels.

That's my point son, it's not part of your name or a title.

Edit: Same as Joe Blow, esq.

                            Joe Blow, duke of earl

If you aren't those things anymore, the suffix is dropped.

That's what I was thinking. Try somewhere else. I heard target masters is extremely hard to deal with.
