    firearms as gifts

I will start by saying that I searched and couldn't find the info that I needed.

Now for the issue. My uncle lives in AZ and owns a P220 and a AR15. He is thinning the collection and knows that I have always had my eye on both of these firearms. He wants to give them to me, but neither I nor he can find a definite answer on this. I plan on asking the dealer when I swing by this weekend, but I figured I would post up here and ask as well.

Now, from my understanding, he can give them to me (I am a resident of CA), if we go to a CA FFL dealer to perform a background check. Am I correct in my assumption?

Also, the AR15 meets California Penal Code Section 12276.1.

Federal laws require the firearms to be transfered through a CA FFL dealer.
The firearms can be shipped to the CA FFL dealer or brought to the CA FFL dealer by the non-resident.

Since, this transfer is not consider a PPT, the CA FFL dealer can legally charge any amount of money to conduct the transfer. So shop around for good CA FFL dealer, prior to having the firearms imported into CA.

The handgun needs to be on the approved list or be exempt from it.

The modern sporting rifle needs to be compliant with CA's "assault weapons" laws.
Modifying the rifle to be CA legal, must be done prior to the rifle entering CA.

... and any magazines must either be 10-rounds or fewer, or disassembled into parts kits and never re-assembled inside California.
