    m9 safety issue

I have an baretta M9 that the take itself off of safe and cocks the hammer when I release the slide. Anyone know how to fix this?

On my 92fs if the gun is on safe and I rack the slide it stays on safe and when the slide returns to battery it automatically decocks the hammer. If my safety is off then the hammer stays back after racking the slide.

The M9 is the military version, maybe it's different.

Are you saying that when the safety is in the safe position and you rack the slide, the safety moves by itself to the fire position?

That's how I read it.. it takes itself OFF safe AND leaves the hammer cocked back..

Yes that is what I am saying. When I rack the slide, the safety rotates to fire and the hammer cocks all the way the rear. Anyone know why or how to fix this?

Your problem is the safety going off.. the hammer staying back is normal since the safety is off.

I can't imagine them building it this way, the only time a safety should go hot is when it's moved by a finger.

I'm thinking that your best bet is sending it to Baretta for repair.. I'm sure they would do it no charge given the liability problem. In the very least I would call thier customer service number.

i understand the way the pistol is intended to function. What I am saying is, it is not functioning properly and I would like to know why. If anyone knows why this is happening or how to fix it I would like to hear from them.

Sorry no help there. I would send it back when it's that serious. It's possible the hammer could fall when you rack the slide and bam the gun goes off.

Also a qualified gun smith would be a good idea.

Try either the handgun section or berettaforum.net.
"Then there are sheepdogs. The sheepdogs are the bastions of safety. The sheepdog lives solely to protect the flock and confront the wolf. They live for the opportunity to be called to duty to protect the innocent. The sheepdog has fangs and the propensity for violence but hopes that he will not have to resort to it. However, he lives for that day when he will be able to use his warrior skills and mindset to keep the wolf from harming the sheep."

Right side extension has two tiny roll pins holding it on (seen from the top). Possible one or both have worked out and now contact the frame, pushing itself off safe when the slide is racked.

An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself...A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague."......Cicero
