    Olhasso Question

Last week I ordered my skeletonized hammer for my Beretta M9. I was excited to get the package in the mail, as soon as I got it I grabbed my gun out of my safe and proceeded to do my first mod. (besides hogue grips)

I opened the package and examined the hammer. It looked worn on both sides like it was used. I was somewhat disappointed but still installed it anyways. I guess it gives my gun more of a "worn" look. Still, nonetheless if it was sold as used I would at least like to be notified before purchasing.

I was just wondering if anyone else had a problem like mine.

    Thanks

Oh and here's a picture of the hammer. Can't really see the blemishes, figured every little bit helps.

    I can see the blems.

When I was tinkering with Beretta's, I had to deal with Dave a few times, and from taking a month to ship something, to accepting a payment and not shipping at all, and other odds and ends, dealing with Dave was always hit and miss. Not sure if he's actively shooting, but it seems that Smith work and parts sales is done in his spare / leisure time, so customer service has never been of paramount importance to him.

I had a good experience ordering some springs from a while back. You may hear more on the Beretta forum possibly.

SOCOM1: It seems to be that way. He should hire a couple people! Hopefully, I hear from him soon. Ordered a D spring 2 days after my hammer purchase I hope that goes without a hitch.

bden: I'll ask them whats up, they probably do have more insight and experience.

        Thanks you guys.

I got an email back he said he probably accidentally sent me a tuned hammer, one that was deburred on the sides, instead of the factory one. Should I keep it?

That's entirely up to you. In this case, the "deburring" is obviously what makes the hammer appear to be cosmetically flawed because he did not refinish it. In my opinion, it simply appears used. Unless Dave considers deburring as tuning, I'm not entirely sure what he could have tuned without physically having your pistol. Granted, it's a drop-in part, but there are always slight anomolies from one pistol to another.

Ah, now I have no idea what to do. I'm just concerned with the longevity of my gun. I dont want this to cause a breakage somewhere.

Personally, I would send it back for an exchange, but that's just me. If I remember correctly, Dave doesn't offer a tuned hammer persay, but does offer a tuned hammer spring, so again, aside from the alleged deburring, I can't imagine what's tuned, especially without seeing the bottom of the hammer. Again, drop-in part, no fitting required, and if it were filed and stoned for better fitment or positive engagement, that'd be hard to do without your pistol present.

You're right. I guess I'll send it back. Thank you.
