laws for trading handgun for handgun?

    hello everyone!
I'm not too savvy on all of the specifics, so i was wondering if i could get some information from someone who knows a little more about this type of thing.

i do have a handgun that i am interested in trading but do not know how the transaction is supposed to be dealt with, (i assume through a FFD)?

do both parties involved in trading any handgun for another handgun have to submit both of their firearms to a dealer for 10 days and pay a doj fee?

is there anyone who has completed trades, handgun for handgun in this state lawfully of course that has any helpful information they can share with me?

    thank you!

Treat it like youre selling a gun, and buying a gun. It's not a trade.

      Same as a sale.

Meet the other party at an FFL, $35 each and make sure you both have an HSC and a new lock or you'll spend another $30-35 or so.

          Nope.

You'll need that for transport (or in your trunk), but state and federal law require that the handgun being transferred be "furnished with" a child safety device... California law requires a receipt less than 30 days old.

Buy a couple of cable locks at WalMart and return them after the transfer, you won't should not even have to open them.
You'll need the locks on pick-up day.

You will be basically doing 2 PPTs. One for each handgun.
