    Disappointed with KAC

I purchased KAC Micro iron sights last night and I received this email today. KAC will no longer ship their parts to CA residents. I will no longer purchase any KAC products since they will not support us.

    Knight's Manufacturing
    ------------------------------------------------------
    Order Number: 5520

Date Ordered: Tuesday 24 January, 2012

The comments for your order are:

I am in receipt of your order that was placed for the following items:

    1 x Micro Flip-Up Rear Sight 200-600 Meter P/N: 25650 $153.15
    1 x Micro Flip Front Sight P/N: 25654 $153.15

Unfortunately at this time we are not shipping any Weapons Parts and Accessories to California. CA law specifically names our RAS (Rail Adapter
System) in their listing of banned assault weapons as if it were a weapon itself along with our SR15 and SR25. Please understand that while we know the SR15, SR25 and the RAS are the only banned items we as a company have made it our policy to not ship any parts and accessories to CA at this time for individual sales. I can however direct you to a CA Dealer that can help you with the purchase of KAC items. The contact information is listed
    below:

    River City Gun Exchange
    2370 Fruitridge Rd
    Sacramento, CA 95822-3148
    (916) 428-0377

    Or

    Centurian Arms
    826 Orange Ave. #513
    Coronado, CA 92118
    Contact Name: Monty LeClair
    Email: monty@centurionarms.com

I have at this time cancelled your order and have credited your card back the $150.00 plus the $12.68 for the shipping cost.

Again I apologize for this inconvenience

So they won't individually sell those items but you can buy them from the listed locations? Makes a whole lot of no sense!

Sad indeed, but I still fall in love with the SR-15 E3.

I thought CA listed it as RSA, a typo, and therefore it was a different product entirely.

CA has listed the KAC "RAS" as an assault weapon.

KAC actually believes that because of that it is illegal to sell the RAS into California, when it's not even a firearm to begin with.

CA did not misspell anything. They just listed a non-firearm (a rail system FOR a firearm) as an AW.
          Please read the Calguns Wiki
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

Once we do all the hard work they'll be more than happy to come in and rake up our money. Or not. I know they could probably care less about civilian sales in any state.

Yes, its their policy to not ship out anything to individuals living in CA. This applies to all of their products such firearms, rails, sights, etc.. You can try and contact the dealers, but most dealers in CA wont even have them in stock.

Theres companies like Berett that will help us against the strict CA regulations... and theres companies like Knight's Armament that dont care.

reason number 344 why I don't buy from KAC
you don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.

                      ebay is your friend

I wouldn't hold it against KAC if you were them you likely wouldn't sell here either. You have to remember they are subject to audit. And heres how that can go : they are listed as an assault weapon manufacturer banned by name in ca, they are shipping AW parts to CA anyway so even though there may technically be no laws broken they will if audited certainly pay some kind of fine or fee.

The one thing I learned more than anything in speaking to reps is how f'd up the rules and people enforcing them can be for anyone in any state. For instance when I asked about a SA version of the new keltec shot gun. And was met with laughter and told they thanked the grace of god they could even get a pump action high capacity shotgun passed through even though many others are already on the market now.

It sucks that's their policy. Punish the residents due to the stupidity of the legislature.

We've got a handful of KAC items in stock and gladly ship to CA:

Ok, I'll play. A few years back I purchased a carbine RAS from a friend that had it laying around as a paper weight. It had no mounting hardware and was useless without it. The barrel nut, hand guard nut, and pins were very expensive so I gave KAC a call. I worked my way through their system and ended up speaking to a guy that was very helpful. In fact, it was the best customer service that I've ever received. The hand guard had a military issued part # and he told me that he probably had the mounting hardware laying around in a drawer. He eventually sent the stuff to me free of charge and I was shocked. About 8 months ago I noticed that the handguard was loose and I assumed that it was the hand guard nut that was loose. To my suprise it was the threaded part of the hanguard where the welds had broken. I contacted them, sent pictures, and was told that it was a fake KAC. from that point on they would not even bother to return my emails. I was shocked that their mounting hardware fit the fake hand guard perfectly.
My point in this story is that I'm of the opinion that I was very fortunate to have been given that mounting hardware by that person at KAC. If my RAS is a fake, well it's one of the best fakes out there. I've since repaired it after they ceased all communication from me. They really do not care for marketing and selling their products to the general public. The meat and potatoes of their business is geared toward selling their products to the taxpayers. Their focused on selling to the military and para-military organizations. Their products are priced accordingly since government is willing to pay for highly overpriced toilet seats, along with thousands of other items
                              .
