Big 5 PPT experiences, fast or slow..

Anyone try to change it up and try out a local Big5 for a PPT? Last 2 PPTs took over an hour. Not including the drive, just the signing, waiting around. Lots of people at gun shops. It takes about 2 hours or more out of my day which isn't exactly pleasant. Thought about going to a local Big 5 that's 5 minutes away to try out a PPT to see if they can work faster cause their gun/hunting section is usually empty. But I dont know if i'm going to have to deal with an employee that doesn't know anything about the PPT process cause it never gets done, and end up taking up longer.

    Experiences?

I'd guess it depends on the Big 5. If they're handy, stop by and ask.

Big 5 is a made-in-China shoe store that also happens to have a gun counter.

Do your PPTs at a real gun shop, please.

they are required by CA law to do long gun PPTs, but do not have to do handgun PPTs since they don't sell handguns.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

this but it was pleasant. and "forever" was really like 20min all said and done. Guy was thorough and didn't spread fud. Couple times he didn't really know what to do, but instead of being upset about it, he just had to excuse himself and get the manual.

Coulda been worse. I could have had to drive another 20miles in traffic to the next closest ppt OK store.

About the only chain that sells any guns or ammo in this neck of the woods. Gotta give 'em props for that.

Bought the Stevens 20 ga during their Christmas sale and the guy was better than most FFL guys. Fast and friendly.

Used Petaluma Big5 with a fellow Calgunner a couple years back because I needed to meet on a Monday. Worked well. I have also used local FFL storefront and a private FFL guy. Just depends on what you need and when you need it.

Big variation in what you get at Big5. Many don't have anyone who works there that really knows much about guns, transfers, or the law. I recently purchased a shotgun here on Calguns and did the PPT at the Big5 in Bakersfield. The manager handled the PPT and I had no problem what so ever. It was fast and efficient and the pick-up was less than 5 minutes. The manager provided the safe affidavit without me asking so there was no hassle about, "You have to have a lock." I think it depends on whether or not the Big5 is in a "gun friendly" community or not.
