    Guns for lefties

I shoot left handed and have noticed that most of the guns on the market have the slide release on the left side of the gun. Same for the mag release.

I have noticed a couple have ambidextrous mag releases and even fewer have the slide release on the right side. I'm not gonna buy a gun unless I can have both on the right side so I need you guys to help not only me but all of us lefties. Can you list the guns that you know of that are lefty friendly?

The only one's I know of are the Sig Sauer P250 and the S&W M&P line.

I wanted the M&P but the mag release issue seems to be a widespread problem, not a confidence builder.

I really want the P250 but it's not on the roster......which in and of itself isn't a deal breaker, but I can't find it full size, it seems on the compact is out at the moment.

So what other guns should I look at that fit the bill?

I saw the title of the thread and thought someone was starting a program to give guns to liberals...

I am lefthanded and I dont usally have an issue with that. Pratice is the key. The only gun that I made ambiderius was my 1911.

As a left-handed shooter, I have found that it's easier for me to adapt to RH guns than to try to convert my guns to LH configurations. I've tried to shoot guns set up for LH shooters but, I'm just used to shooting RH set ups left handed. I've decided that this is better because this way I can pick up almost any gun and shoot it without having to fumble with bass ackwards set ups. The only exception to this rule is my AR50L because of the way that the stock is designed.

A right hand pistol with the slide release on the left side is easier to use for a lefty. You can have both of your hands gripping the pistol and use your trigger finger to release the slide.

It has never been an issue for me.

Springfield XDs are set up from the get go as ambi for mag release. The slide release can be manipulated with the index finger.

I'm a lefty and I actually find it easy to drop the slide with my finger on the left side than with my thumb on the right side.

As long as any manual safety is accessible for my left thumb, the slide release doesn't matter to me.

Affirming what someone said earlier; I have always admired and loved the 1911 platform and it dismayed me from an early age (i.e., before I actually shot one) that the controls were designed for righties.

Long story short -- many righties will say that it's easier to drop a mag with your left hand middle finger (you don't have to shift the gun to use your thumb); and with practice you can realize very efficient usage of your pointing finger to release the slide; the only one that takes REAL practice is using your left thumb on a non-ambi frame safety on a 1911.

I occasionally covet a Portsider Arms left-handed 1911; but then I wouldn't know how to use the damn thing!

That may work better for you but everyone is different.

I've tried it that way with my gun vs. the M&P and I definitely like dropping the slide with my left thumb like on the M&P

There are very few ambi pistols and it seems the ones that are out there are not on the roster to be sold here.
I wanted a CZ85 since I am left handed. No go in this state.
As long as a pistol as an ambi safety I have no problems with it. My USP has a ambi mag release but I never use it. I am more comfortable using my trigger finger to drop the mags.

Years ago someone made a copy of a SIG with ambi hammer drop lever and I would like to find one to buy but so far I haven't seen any. But the slide lock was only on the left side of the pistol.

My M&P (when I get to finally pick it up) will be my first pistol with a slide lock on both sides but that's not a reason I bought it.

That is how my USP is set up, and I like how it works. The only modification I did was to add the ambi safety.

The AR is like that as well, I like the bolt release on the left side. I can reach it with my trigger finger no problem. All I did on most of mine is add an ambi safety.

I have a left-handed H&K P2000 V3. Fully ambidextrous mag release & slide release. Decocker is on the rear of the frame, can easily be hit with the left thumb.

Nice! I'm gonna have to look into that one.
