How to Camo paint my stock?

    Greetings, fellow CalGunners--

I have made a heavy barrel target rifle project, and I'd like to camo paint the gun, scope, and stock.

My question is, "Would someone be so kind as to point me to a site with instructions and a materials list?" I already have the gun.

    Thank you in advance.

    Don't.

Those look great guys.I generally use flora/fauna from around the yard for stencils.Degrease the stock with dawn and hot water.Degrease the metal stuff with brake cleaner and alcohol. You can get alcohol on a scope but try not to get brake cleaner on it.Spray everything with satin black, dry, apply fauna in different areas and whatever satin color you want.I use gray or a mix of satin green and satin brown.Dry.Spray satin clear over everything.I like the look of the pictures above better.Where my guns go the coyotes are ugly and do not care what the gun looks like.My Rem 1187 is painted entirely with tan yard furniture paint. If you walk more than 20 yds from it in the desert,it becomes a search.Coyotes do not see it at 6 yds until it swings.I was as surprised as they were.

I very much appreciate the replies.

The stock I'm going to paint will go on my heavy barrel Mosin build. This stock has been my "general build" stock for Mosins. I inletted it years ago, and every Mosin build I do I use this stock to test things before I put the rifle into a real stock.

I've tested maybe half a dozen different finishes on it, last being pine tar in the Finnish manner, I've experimented with sling mountings on it, so there are holes, and I've done experimental sandings and that sort of thing. This stock was made by some high school kid in wood shop. It has a 1" thick oak board running down its middle, and the two outer parts are pine. It has a rubber recoil pad mounted. If you look below the bolt, you can see one of the dowels used to dowel together the three boards. It's monster strong, that's for sure.

So, this stock will be good for the heavy barrel build, and I think I'll either make or buy a bi pod for it. It will be for target shooting and the stock is so ugly now I can't hurt its looks any more. I think this is its last mount. Once I have the barrel torqued, drilled, and tapped, I'll mount as a scout style and use a long eye relief scope. When I get a bent bolt handle, I'll use the holes for the scout mount to put on a longer (steel) rail for the short eye relief scope.

Here is the rode hard and put away wet, ancient and scuffed stock with the fully floated heavy barrel mounted to see how it sits (note the dead monster to the side...):

                  Thank you again.

Think twice before doing the scope.

The resale value will be cut in half (nobody wants a messed with scope).

You have to be super careful about taping it off so the glass gets NOTHING on it -both ends.

Putting it on another gun will look pretty stupid unless it's been painted the same way.

I doubt I could do nearly as nice a job as you have there.

Care to share your method? I don't plan on painting anything of mine (easy to resell that way), but I'd love to know how your patterns look so even and uniform.

                        Hydro dip.

Othwise camo just takes a little practice. Buy a cheap air soft or BB gun and go for it. Get some 1/4 inch grid paper and cut out male and female digital stencils and watch the 10,000 you tube vids on the subject . Look up the hydro dip first tho.
