How important is spelling? Scope deal

I was playing around Ebay and misspelled Leupold on purpose on a search and found a "like-new Luepold" Vari-X II 3x9 scope listed for sale with a minimum bid of $100.

Here's my $100 scope: There's a little tape residue from a price tag ($289) on the front bell but other than that it's immaculate.

There have been several articles in mainstream media about how people get great deals on eBay due to mispellings. 'labtop' was one of the original eBay search queries.

It's got the serial number on the side and the optics are beautiful. If it's a fake, it's a damn good one and worth the $100 just for the quality of the glass.

I just talked to Leupold and Mark says that the counterfeits are limited to the Mark 4 in 3.5x10 and 4.5x14. He ran my serial number anyway and it's real.

a little dab of lighter fluid on a cotton rag/tshirt should take that tape residue right off without marring the surface. it's how we take the warning stickers off our motorcycle tanks and stuff without damaging them - you gotta do it sooner rather than later though, that stuff sets and becomes like superglue after awhile.

I'm guessing everyone, including me, tried that misspelling after they read your post..

It only came up with the correct spelling and the expected prices. I can see why they counterfeit the Mark 4 scopes. They had one for about $850; that's some nice money to rip someone off for. (disclaimer: Not advocating doing that nor have I ever or intend to).

                FJOLD, you shoot "lefty", right?

Well anytime I am looking to Buy on GunBroker for left handed guns I always try several different spelling. L/H, LH, Leftie, Lefty, Lefthand, Left Hand, Left Handed, LeftHanded.

Sometimes I find a killer deal that way, no one bidding just me.

Yep, I also do that but I don't buy a lot of guns on the internet (except for my LH 375 H&H)

"Luepold" is one of my regular searches, about three months ago I got a "Luepold" 2.5X8 VX-III for $225.

Left handed rifle actions are what I am generally trolling for, though I have bought L/H shotguns online
