    Hi-Point vs Mech-Tech

I'm thinking .45ACP carbine. Money being tight, I'm looking at the lower cost options. I have narrowed the choice to the Hi-Point & the Mech-Tech.

Yes, the Mech-Tech is illegal in the PRK at present, but this is all hypothetical at the moment. So, presuming that I could get a Mech-Tech, should I? Or should I go for the Hi-Point?

Having seen both now 'in the flesh' (so to speak), I like them both. Each seems to be what I seek. The Mech-Tech has the option of a collapsible stock, & doesn't have a bullet button. I'm presuming that the bullet button on the Hi-Point can be removed (when that becomes legal) & even w/o a collapsible stock, is still compact.

I guess it boils down to, which is toughest? I.E., which one is best able to be tossed into a trunk, generally neglected & yet still able to put rounds down range on a reliable basis?

    FFT, FTR, KIM....

... just because a pistol is a known good shooter doesn't mean turning that same pistol into a carbine gets you the same results.

The Hi-point is ugly and works every pull of the trigger, the Mech-Tech is ugly and _________ every pull of the trigger.

A.- Works just like a Glock
B.- Works nearly as good as a Glock
C.- Can work nearly as good as a Glock if you use copious amounts of lube and are mindful of maintenance.
D.- is unknown because there isn't enough data out there to trust the function of the weapon system.

        I've had 1911s turned into carbines and I currently own a 4595.

For about the same money the HiPoint is a much better deal.

Get the carbine; it's a lot of fun.

10MM over .45. Might as well have some PUNCH if you're going to shoot a carbine.

Are you saying a .45 doesn't have any punch?

Does the mech-tech use non-proprietary mags? Doesn't the high point require high point mags? I have an aversion to single sourced mags.

My current 45acp carbine is a Camp 45. Not worth what they cost now, but was worth what it cost when I bought it. Just MHO.

Morning..the Mech-Tech uses GLOCK magazines and with a bullet button and fixed stock (over 30 inches long here in California) she's legal.

I had a Camp 45 as well. Sold it but wish I still had it. I do have a Marlin Camp 9 that I love. (cheap fun).

A 10MM has more energy at 100 yards than a .45 has at the muzzle.

To my way of thinking a small handy carbine would be used in a SHTF situation where you have to clean out a car, most likely an old Chevy with steal doors.

FTR I have heard you can use Wilson Combat 1911 mags in the hi-point. I think you need to mod the feed lips or something. Search Youtube I think thats where I saw the video on it.

As it happens, I'm a total fan of the .45ACP, so I won't be going 10mm.

But, you (is that you?) are shooting the Mech-Tech. I presume you put sights on the thing eventually. Are you still shooting it? Is it as rugged as everyone else is saying the Hi-Point is?

That's the part that worries me. If I do get one, I'd be putting on a 1911 frame. I don't have any worries about that part of it. Its the reliability of the upper part that is the big unknown.

THIS is what I'm looking for. The question then is yours a .45 or a 9mm?

DDs Ranch usually has a few with bullet buttons.

I made a couple 10 round mags outa 1911 mags... They work better than the hi point 9-rounder it came with. I put a sig laser/light on it. Went back to irons recently red dot kept unzeroing itself.
