Shipping of Rifle from Mexico to California

My grandfather gave me Winchester 1886 a while back and I want to have shipped to California from Mexico. I have called UPS, Fed EX and they will not do it. Does anyone know what other resources I have to get my rifle state side?

As far as I know no international shipping of firearms unless you are an importer. BUT is this black powder ? If so I dont think those are viewd as "firearms " at least in the US.

You can send rifles in the US mail, maybe you can use the Mexican post office as well.

It is not black powder and that is what ATF told me, that an importer can do it but I do not trust Mexican mail because I will receive an empty box. I will keep on trying, has to be an honest importer somewhere . Is the 45 70 cartridge a black powder cartridge? it has been years since I have seen the rifle, I was a kid when he gave it to me..

Should have told the ATF it was part of the "Fast and Furious" program and an agent would probably deliver it to your doorstep the next day

Yeah I think you're going to need an importer, that stinks because I'm sure there will be red tape and of course fee$

Amazing how many guns the BATFE "imports" into Mexico day by day.

Sorry, our government is hypocritical up the ***, I can't think of any *legal* way to get your rifle back in U.S. soil.

LMAO I will find a way and I will post it when and how I did it. I would go and get it and bring it back by car but so many damn military road blocks that I would find myself in a Mexican prison. My aunt is up from Mexico and she has been trying to find a way to get it to me but does not trust any of the importers she has met.

The 45-70 was originally designed as a black powder cartridge (.45 caliber bullet with 70 grains of black powder) but has survived the test of time to continue it's life with smokeless powders.

As to whether or not the rifle in question was designed for smokeless powder, I haven't a clue.

It needs to come from an Exporter in Mexico and arriving with an Importer here in the United States. These international shipments can take quite some times. There are common cases where firearms coming from Canada can take 8-16 months of work before the person can acquire it here.

Make sure the barrel is not under 16", or if so that some BS original paperwork like a sales invoice is included. Pre 1899 Antique guns are still subject to the NFA, unless the ATF exempts them as C&R by SN. The good new is that pre 1899 Antique guns do not require a form 6 for importation. AFAIK CA doesn't care about Antique guns either. You could take it apart or build some furniture around it. You could stash it in the lower rocker or quarter panel. Many places to loose things in a car or truck. Just don't make it look like trim panels have been disturbed.

I,m so pissed that tons of pot and other illict drugs come over our borders, and yet a Prized Heirloom has so many restrictions. I would love to have a 45-90,or a 45-70 anyday.

This really sucks. You're trying to do this the right way and of course the government makes it impossible and almost forces you to break the law. keep us updated. Good luck.
