Private Gun Club

There are clubs like you've mentioned....sans the storage for privately owned guns. I am a member of one. Limit of 425 members with a waiting list and approval process (needing two reccomendations)that streatches for years.... and orientation meet and a range qualification and a safty check once you do make the wait. NRA mebership a requisite, work days or monetray donations for NOT working range days is mandatory. Bonus plan of it being open 361 days/year and 24/7 for the indoor range....closed for Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. You'd laugh at how cheap the dues are...but that is in essence because of proper management of trusts set up by benefactors of former gun lovers

It CAN be done. But it'll cost a LOT more than what you're thinking if you dont already have the land.

We have a club house like that here on base with pool tables, dart boards and a Bar (beer/sodas). Its kinda nice to have a place to hang out and shoot pool and BS with like minded people and not worry about someone getting pissed off because they hear you talk about guns,hunting,beer or boobs. Like others have said, the insurance is gonna suck.

ar15barrels, the only thing bad about West End is getting there when the creek is running fast and high.. I went to go see it last year and thought my truck was going to get stuck. Some guy in a MBZ sedan went thru at 30mph, so I figured I could make it also.

Never got a chance to shoot unfortunately (public day), because the RM was working the grader and they said he had to be on the line for a non member to shoot.

I'm sure the range is a fine place, not knocking it. Tho I wonder, since it was only 1 lane in and out, who backs up to let the other by.

I usually just go to Lytle Creek at the Firing Line up the road.

We like it that way.
It keeps the lowered honda's and their occupants from getting to our range.
Real men drive trucks.

Whoever is smaller.
There are actually quite a few wide spots in the road.
I drive a ford ranger and I have never needed to backup to let someone pass.

Like I said, I wasn't knocking the club. I had a Dodge 2500, long bed extended cab and the water was going so fast and looked so deep, I thought I'd get water in my cab. Obviously I was wrong as I made it thru.

They were doing a lot of grading at that time, perhaps for a larger parking area across from the range?

If they still allow the public, I might try again sometime as it's a bit closer than the Firing Line. Take care.

They offer $50 "limited" memberships.
Anyone can join as a limited member.
You can't just walk in off the street and pay your $10 anymore though.

It lets you shoot on our front range friday, saturday and sunday when the rangemaster is there.
That's the same range that used to be open to the public.
Everyone needs to be a member, or a guest of a member.
We are no longer officially "open to the public", but anyone can become a member.

This change in policy has to do with our club becoming a non-profit organization.
As a non-profit, you can't collect more than a certain percentage of your budget from the public.
By everyone being a "member" or a "guest", we get past that hurdle.

Is this still correct? It's only open 3 days a week from 8-4 or is this only for guests/limited members?

The website is a sore subject for me...
I used to be the webmaster.
Last year, somebody showed up at the election night meeting and ran against me.
He won, mostly because I don't go to the meetings.
He has done NOTHING to the site since he got elected.
The club president has been doing the updates.

The club is only open to "walk-ins" friday, saturday and sunday.
You just have to join up as some sort of member, or be a guest of a member.
If you are a full member, you have the gate combo and 24/7/365 access.

Having been a full member for 10 years now, I highly recommend that option.
Full members can bring guests.
Full members get access to the back ranges.
During the week, (mon-thur) there is no rangemaster at the front range so only full members can use it.
There are rarely more than a couple people at the range on any given mon-thur.
