you wouldnt see this in CA

i was doing my rounds today visiting some local shops to "see if any cool stuff had come in" (used guns/consignments). When i told this to the employee at one shop, he says "we'll have 150 'cool things' out tomorrow...all pre-owned".

Interested, i asked if they were from one collector, he says "yea, one collector, the sheriffs department. They're all seizures. handguns, rifles, shotguns...etc."

needless to say, i will be there when they open. Out of 150 guns, there's gotta be something with my name on it.

I think these were seized from criminals, not from a gun buy back. I just thought it was cool that they are offering them to the public instead of melting them down

Apparently they are more green there then here as much as they try and tout it politically. Good luck, probably come across a python or two for a deal.

Seen it in Ca. In fact, the shop I used to work at would routinely get stuff dropped off by a friend in a Federal alphabet soup position.

Why exactly are the guns melted in a buyback here in California? You figure the departments would make a killer buck redistributing them back into the civilian market once they have been cleared of any bad history.

Departments here would rather lose out on the money and melt them.

Or the LEO gets permission to take it home. My friend ended up with a BAR receiver that way.

Here in CA especially, the buyback guns are melted to keep them off the streets.
It is true that some (very few) of the pd sold guns end up back on the streets.
They assume if 1 in every 1000 guns makes it back, it must not be worth it to sell them to the law abiding.

No, it's political. They don't want possible "crime guns" or whatever back on the streets. Of course this isn't an issue for seized vehicles and other property.

i went by today and it wasn't anything special yet. typical criminal POS guns. they barely had anything out and were still trying to clean them. Im gonna go back tomorrow and see how many more made it to the rack.

Best guns I saw were some nice AK's. Im not an AK guy AT ALL, so excuse me if i get this company's name wrong, i think he said Veltors or something like that (started with a V) ? i think the guy said they were made by a US company in Utah? Underfolder stocks, in really good shape which was surprising.

If i find something awesome, i would be surprised. It's not like they are selling guns taken from Calguns Members, they are selling guns owned by low life scum that 1) bought the cheapest POS they could find 2) NEVER cleaned them.....think "rusty".

They only had about 6 guns out by 10am, so Ill bet they have a lot more tomorrow.
