Thinking about doing some gun training lessons opinons?, bay area which one?

well im pretty new to shooting got my first gun in november

sig p226 9mm

then picked up my 1911 couple weeks ago lol


im thinking about doing some lessons in person , i mean so far i been self teaching myself (watching youtube vids) and feel im decent, im wondering if i should just keep self teaching/range time , or go ahead and do some lessons


which bay area training is recommend? i googled and came up with "bay area firearms training" but after reading reviews i think i'll pass on that one, most are held on saturdays is there any that are held on sundays?/mondays?

There is a guy that does private classes at USI for $100, just basic stuff. His office is in WC, not sure what his name is.

Too bad you didnt make it to the last class in Dec. Was a smaller class so we had
Alot more shooting time. Rapid fire downloads at end of class are always fun. Bring more mags than you think you need. ;p

These guys are in San Jose (Morgan Hill actually) I've done the Handgun and Shotgun classes with them. Your'e a ways away but so was I, and it's worth the trip. All day class, you will learn a lot. My wife took the handgun class too, and came out a much improved shooter..

Took their shotgun class, haven't shot any firearm since highschool (at least 20yrs ago) before going to the class, they gave excellent instructions and (re)started me on firearms the right way.

Call USI on Wednesday and ask the RO who he recommends. Why? USI has some top shooters who also teach, like ROs Larry (his forte is rifles but he's a helluva bullseye shooter with a handgun too) and Bruce (pistol action) -- both great guys, both great shooters and teachers. I took a paid lesson with Larry and Bruce gave me a free one down at the action pistols range. Another guy, as I recall, shows up Monday afternoons at USI. I forget his name but he's also one of the best shots there and is generous with his shooting advice if he notices you and likes you.

A private lesson with one of these guys will help you get your fundamentals down. Practice them lots before you head off to some tactical group lesson.

Even though they are far from you OP I enjoyed my training with these guys. Three SJPD members that were focused on safety and were very professional. Of course you can always contact your local range as they will have private instruction as well as classes available.
