OMG, building a FAL definitely has a pain in the @ssness factor greater than anything I have ever done. Building a FAL makes building an AK look like a kids game.

You need lots of expensive tools, gages, and I highly recommend a lathe. It can be done, but make sure you understand what you are getting yourself into before you start.

The silver lining is once you build your own FAL, you will forever have a bond with that rifle.

My friend got a SA FAL parts kit and a Imbel receiver..He was going to do it himself based on instructions on the FALfiles forums..However, he ended shipping it to the Gunplumber at http://www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/ to build into a Cali legal config..

      It is very nice indeed..

A lot of it depends on which receiver you choose. Some of them can require a lot of work to get it right.
The 3 early enterprise receivers I have required anything from hand fitting one 2 of them to having to mill the charging handle slot to the correct dimensions and a crap load of hand fitting on the third.
My hess (yeah I bought one of those piles of crap took welding and machining to get right).
I rebarreled a imbel a buddy has and it went easy and only required a new locking shoulder. I have heard the newer enterprise are better and hopefully it is true and they can crank out some good receivers which would make assembling a rifle much easier.
You do need some special tooling so unless you plan on building more than one it is probabaly cheaper to have someone at least barrel it and set the headspace.
The rest of the parts might require minor fitting/clean up to fit.

Hey Toolbox X, you forgot the smiley after that statement. I just finished building an AK from flats, Both time wise and tool wise I could have built 5 SA 58 in the same amount of time.

Milsurpshooter PM me I will a help you with tools and 30 years of SA 58/FAL experience. Its the good neighborghly thing to do. Us Fresnans have to stick together. DSA receivers are the most exact copy of the belgian made receivers. There are others , like IMBEL Entreprise are probably the next the best.
