Advice on possible transfer trouble(for a friend)

I work with a lady who brought a gun home from AZ. Her father passed and left her a 4 shot derringer, not sure of the caliber.

I asked her who did the IFT, and she said "what do you mean? I just brought it home."

I know the law, but what do I tell her now that the gun is already here. Her mother is still alive...does she have to bring the gun back to her mother, have it shipped or hand delivered to an FFL to transfer it?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hooray!

I get to give good news.

She's fine. Both Federal and California law exempt inheritance from using an FFL.

She should file an OPLAW form to register the handgun.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

That is possible, however it could be a modern weapon called the "Cop .357 derringer".
