    $1000...

I've been thinking, say I had a grand to build /buy a gun for competition. Would it be better to buy a 1911 out of the box or buy a Glock 34/35, and buy for example glockworx trigger, match barrel, and some other small things.

what sort of competition? Most any discipline/class where a 1911 is going to be competitive is also one where a box stock 1911 will be at a disadvantage. Any competition with a glock being a competitive or even dominant gun is going to be aimed completely different class of shooter (ie, not a novice to competition).

My advice would be go get a glock and try out the GSSF events. A 1911 might be best in a non-.45acp caliber too if it's going to spend its whole life waiting for a buzzer. .357 sig or .38 super might be useful and will make better use of a compensator.

If you're going the custom-parts route, the Glock will keep you around 1K and (usually) not need an "experimentation" period before it is reliable. Reliability means more than an inch, or two, group off of a bench in action pistol. Well, at least for novice competitors, it does.

Wow I shoot a Springfield PX 1911 and a Glock 34.I have not touched any of the factory things(they both shoot well).I will say that they are totally different guns.I am going through this with a friend right now choosing a gun.He has always been a 1911 guy. After around 1500 rds,he is still 1911.A word of advice,do not customize anything until you are going to keep it for life. The added cost is a killer if you decide it is not for you. Most people seem to be divided on the type of guns we are talking about here.I also get along with the Sigs and actually prefer them.1911s are like Mr Potato Heads, you can swap parts all day and I love that.Glocks,I will always own a few.
