Why you should post your location

Every now and then someone posts about wanting to try a new gun, or their GF, wife, mother wants to try out shooting. Very often these people have no access to a wide varaity of firearms. I'm always willing to bring anything I own to the range if someone wants to try something I have to see if they like it. Especially when it involves new shooters, and even more so with new women shooters because my GF enjoys helping women who are new to shooting.

Before emailiing or IMing someone it would be nice to know before hand if they even live in the same area.

People who refuse to list their general location need to loosen their tin foil hats

I hardly ever respond to a thread looking for any kind of help if the location isn't disclosed.

If your hiding I cant find you and I'm too lazy to look

I already disclose my location. Specific enough to know where to expect to drive, not specific enough to track me down. LA's a big place.

I don't know. I'm not a tin foil guy but there are enough anonymous crazies out there who don't have anything else better to do during the day but, well, crazy stuff. Having run my own sites, business and hobby sites, I've seen enough of that. I like these boards to discuss openly yet maintain my privacy. I've actually met some people from the Internet but am very careful.

As for trying different guns, some ranges are good for that. The ones where they let you rent any and all of their guns for one daily fee.

It reminds me of a recent thread in another forum where grown men were getting emotional over their defense prowess and the ability to beat up people. It got bad and guys were calling each other the p***y word (domestic animal of the feline persuasion). Ridiculous and childlike, really. But that's how it degraded. At least one poster was banned; and this was in an otherwise respectable forum. It can happen.

So, you can imagine if there was one nut in the crowd who was obliged to make a real world point. Some posters were, after all, using their real names. It gets like that on the Internet sometimes.

Do you know of any of these types of ranges in Los Angeles?

LAX Indoor Range is a good one: http://www.laxrange.com/

                  Insight Range in Artesia: http://www.insightrange.com/

Here's one that has 3 locations in the LA area: http://www.firingline.net/ For that one, you can rent any number of them for free with free range time, if you're a member ($150 annually). The good thing is that membership applies to all 3 locations.
