Russia says bye to AK rifles

This year has seen the end of the longstanding tradition of the Soviet times. Russia's Defense Ministry has decided to completely refuse from purchasing the legendary AK-74 rifles for the army. There are two reasons for that: the country has too many Kalashnikovs and they are outdated.

Nikolai Makarov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces said: "Yes, we have refused. The reserves that we have in the country exceed the needs considerably."

Afterwards, the official "destroyed" the AK-74 completely having said that the Kalashnikovs were not good for the army.

Instead of what the M4/M16 yeah right a good AK74 with good ammo, trigger and good optics can hang with anything out there as far as accuracy goes now when it comes to reliability nothing comes close

Early this year, the Russian Defense Ministry stated he wanted to update the Russian military by adopting a Western designed 5.56x45mm rifle that uses STANAG magazines, something as accurate as the M-4 Carbine but more reliable.

As part of an agreement with the Clinton Administration during the mid/late-90s, Russian made non-sporting firearms/firearms parts kits are banned from importation to the USA.

I assume whatever platform they come up with it will be 7.62x51 cal. I can't see them downsizing there load.

A good AK is a good rifle I have fired thousands upon thousands of rounds out of every type of AK. They are good but I would not want to carry one into battle, I can think of so many other rifles that are better. Case in point most of the countries that used the AK are slowly shifting to better more modern guns. Like the M4 or G36 or Tavor. There is nothing wrong with an AK is is just not as fast handling, light, or accurate as many of the newer rides.
