Permanently disable firearm for display only

Is there an approved method of disabling a firearm to legally allow it to be purchased by an individual which wouldn't require a transfer through an FFL?

I want the firearm to remain intact as much as possible as a show piece, but allow anyone to purchase it.

    Thanks

I was thinking of taking the firing pin out and putting a perm weld there. Just want to be sure all the legal areas are covered so these can be sold to the general public, display only, never able to be operated.

I think one would have to do more than remove just the firing pin.

if you want to render it a "non gun" for sale you need a AFT letter on its dewat
