    My Step-Dad is Anti Gun

But he knows there is no way around the fact that the bad guys have guns so he asked me to take him shooting. I took him out to my shooting spot today and started him out with a 22 pistol, then my xd40, and finally my Springfield 1911. He liked the 1911 the best and after a few pointers he was doing very well. I think he's hooked now. We did have some gun debate while we were out. With him being liberal and me not, we typically have some long debates on politics, and guns. Anyway he wants to get his CCW now and I'm going to help him through the process. On a side note, i pulled out my YHM AR and his eyes got real big and said "what the heck do you need that thing for". I said Zombies ofcourse. He just rolled his eyes. Next i going to get him to start prepping. One thing at a time.

    Good job.

    He's not really anti-gun.
His attitude is not unlike many aspects of mine when I was in college.

I understood Socialism and Marxism and saw that they COULD be good things.... but not as long as human beings were running the system, or programming the computers that were running the system. Thus, to the confusion of my profs, I was a member of the college Republicans and campaigned for Reagan

Likewise, I didn't always see (hand)gun control as being a bad thing... but knowing that laws do nothing to stop criminals, I never supported it publicly.

Yeah that's kinda how the conversation went. He would say "we need to have more laws to stop the bad guys from getting guns". Then I would say but there bad guys. They don't care about laws. He agrees with me, he just won't come out and say it.

        Best analogy:

Making it more difficult for law abiding taxpayers to own firearms to "stop bad guys" -

Is the same logic as solving drunk driving by making more difficult for sober people to buy gas.

Murder and assault with a deadly weapon are already felonies -

Does that do anything to "stop bad guys"...?

        The obvious answer is no.

So why would the "bad guys" obey ANOTHER gun law...?

All gun legislation does is limit and restrict the rights of law abiding taxpayers...

Good for you, you got him out shooting. That in itself is a good thing.

                  Nice man .

Instead of screaming for new gun control laws, we should be screaming for better trained , and more usefull police.

The sad thing is I see gun owners/shootiners/hunters with anti-gun views.

Think about it. When a person who shoots a shotgun(trap/skeet/birds/slugs etc) states that we do not need (insert word such as AR/AK/50bmg/or some rifle pistol with certain features) then that person is showing anti-gun attitudes. They also have a ego problem but that is another thing.
Same would be true of a rifle owner/shooter saying there is no need for shotguns/pistols. You get my drift I hope.

Then there are those who put down hunting or a certain way of hunting that is legal.

Or those that think you should only own(insert number) of firearms or an certain amount/type of ammo.

Bottom line is "if you own/shoot a firearm you need to support all types and forms of shooting/hunting/collecting and types of firearms".

Remember a house divided will fall and then even your hunting rifle(i.e. Sniper to those anti) or shotgun will be illegal in time.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

While I agree with most of this, I can see where being anti-hunting is not necessarily anti-gun. Someone could be against the killing of animals, but not the guns that are used. (I am not anti-hunting or anti-gun) I also feel that someone who takes an anti-hunting stance would need to not eat meat, wear, or otherwise use, leather or any other product from dead animals in order to not be a hypocrit.
