Still curious as to why the highway patrol needs them? The marshals or state troopers ok I get it. Is the highway patrol in Texas also in charge of the gulf? Has the rio grande been reclassified as a highway?

I believe that, in Texas, State Troopers and Highway Patrol are one in the same. I could be wrong though.

It's just like energy...take from somewhere, gotta put it somewhere. Citizens lose rights to bear arms, but police increase their armament. It's getting a little out of control.

1. they probably got a boat (pun intended) load of grant money. when it aint your money to spend, you tend to overspend. plus, the rule of the grant is you cant hire people or buy new buildings. or some weird rule.
