It will be nice to see correlating positive results to support the cause elsewhere in the state.

I'm asking members insight whoever is "in the know" of the carry cases that are going on right now And wondering I'd this a good thing that the state capital is issuing ltc's

I believe the Sheriff gave an interview to a Sac area news station stating that do to the budget cuts and lay offs of lots of LEO's he has no choice but to allow people to protect themselves.

I think (not 100% sure) he also in another interview stated he has no reason to not trust law abiding citizens and therefore has no problems issuing.

I think Youtube has a couple of the news clips you could search.

I would say it is a 'good thing'.

It's pretty obviously a good thing for residents of Sacramento County who wish to carry.

So long as the folks who get LTC stay as law-abiding as we expect, it's a good thing for California - a running experiment in the state that shows the fears of the ignorant to be unfounded.

In a year or two we'll have crime data that might be affected by an increase in 'civilians' carrying. Like the data Lott collected for the whole country, I would hypothesize that violent crime in the county will drop some, property crime will go up some, and violent crime in neighboring counties - Placer, Yolo, Solano - will go up some. That is, there will be both displacement of criminals to different crimes, and displacement of criminals to different geographic locations. The magnitude of those changes is very hard to predict, but I believe the direction will be as I hypothesize.

Not a big risk; I can't see that California/Sacramento is qualitatively different from other places that have relaxed LTC issuance, and what I suggest is what has usually happened.

Probably is not interesting that the county containing the capitol is one of the places with relaxed LTC issuance. That's unlikely to have any direct influence on lawmakers, since most of them live in other parts of the state.

I also heard, like erik said, that the sheriff gave an interview or made a statement as well. John McGinness ( old sheriff ) currently has a talk show on KFBK 1530 in Sacramento and has made comments on his CCW policy there from what I hear.

Since our law makers spend a great amount of time in Sacramento and residency requirements are not well defined , the Sheriff could be persuaded to issue a LTC to them as well.
