    FFL stolen gun check?

I am selling a gun tomorrow (well, several) and was getting everything ready. I can not find the bill of sales to one of the rifles that needs to go through an FFL. I know that the FFL that sold it to me has record of this. My question is simple. Is my missing sales receipt going to ruin the deal? Can the FFL just contact my selling FFL to verify that he sold it to me?

    Thanks for any help.

What I thought. Just had a friend take 30 days to buy a consignment gun for some reason.

Cosignment guns work that way for some reason. The gun must be held a certain amount of days before DROS can be started.

As for the FFL checking the gun, did you originally buy the gun through an FFL? If so, there were no problems with you getting the gun so there should be no problems with you selling the gun.

I've read that all FFLs run the serial on guns to see if they are stolen but I don't know if that is true.

You do not need a bill of sale or receipt to sell a gun. IF it was reported stolen then it might be seized. No worries.

Really? I have bought and sold guns on consignment and the wait was 10 days for the purchaser.

As far as I know there is no way for us to check if a firearm is stolen. If it is a long gun it won't matter anyway as that doesn't go into the system. I suppose if it is a handgun it might get caught if it were stolen.

As far as my obligation on a PPT goes, I have none to little. You bring in the gun and the buyer, you both give me your ID, and run you through, the buyer usually pays, you leave.
www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.

Some locations (mine for example) have "CA Second-Hand Dealer" rules for dealing with consigned merchandise to contend with. When I take in a gun on consignment, I have to fill out a form and send a copy to the local PD. I also am required to hold the gun from delivery for 30 days. The PD runs it through the system to see if it's stolen. Nothing stops you from paying for the consigned gunon the day it is brought in. I just can't deliver it to you for those 30 days.

Thank you for the clarification. I was wondering if that rule was a local issue because in the two counties I have dealt with consignment there was only the standard waiting period.

I think the City of Sacramento has a similar set of requirements.

Not True. Just more gun store lore.

Well, the sale went fine. I gave enough info to the FFL that I doubt any crook would try and sell a gun legally through PPT.
