    Shooting Martinez

I am in Martinez on business and come here frequently. Can someone recommend a range with handgun rentals? I'm sure there are a few ranges around the area, but which is best?

I am alone so I guess the range can not have a rule against renting to single people.

    Thanks for the help.

I think closest places will be Vacaville, but I don't know about the rental policy to singles.

Are you looking to weekend shoot? USI is right here, just need to hook up with other calgunners to bring the guns, cheaper to buy someone a burger or pizza as thanks than to have to buy range reloads

Unfortunately, my time is tied up with a newborn so range time is almost out of the question for me.

Use the goog to search calguns

Tankerman, there are no rental ranges in the immediate area. The closest ones are in Vacaville (Fishing, guns & things). That's Ivanimal's lunch time backyard & Bullseye in San Rafael.

If you bring your own firearms, then you can go to Richmond Rod & Gun club or Concord has a nice range but you need to be "safety certified" before you can shoot.

Unfortunately, the company I work for has a policy that says you may not transport or carry firearms while on company business. So I can't bring my own.

I find it interesting that no ranges in this area have rentals. I travel often and have visited indoor ranges in many different areas of the country and they all generally offer gun rentals.

Where in the Bay Area are the ranges that do offer rentals guns?

        Thank you

I know what you mean. I have a two and four year old. Before they came along I was at the range all the time. My son is just now getting to the age where he is starting to make trips with me to the range. So I figure in a couple of more years he will be old enough to go for longer sessions with a better variety guns. But in the mean time I will just keep squeezing in range time when I can.

You have to go to the indoor ranges for rentals. The ranges in Contra Costa County are all outdoor ranges.

I think all of the indoor ranges have a buddy requirement (two or larger groups only) for rentals. Many of the ranges have had bad experiences with the lone renter committing suicide with their rental guns.

You might check Guns, Fishing, and Other Stuff in Vacaville

I dont' know for sure if they do rentals though.

            The Shooting Gallery in Vacaville:

Very small indoor range that does have rentals.

            or

Bullseye Indoor Range in San Rafael (right over the Richmond Bridge):

            Very nice, clean range.

Seems they have a program for 'tourists' w/ one on one 'training'. Maybe you can contact them to see if you can work something out to rent guns by yourself as long as one of their staff is there to supervise you...

Guns, Fishing, and Other Stuff in Vacaville has a nice selection of handguns/rifles and bows. They have a really nice sales selection of guns too if you want to window shop. Practically brand new building when they opened up not too long ago. Few more exits down the freeway there's The Shooting Gallery also that's an indoor range with rentals.

Maybe I will do a little window shopping and shoot the bull. Who knows maybe someone will rent me gun?

I've been to both the shops listed above in Vacaville, I like http://www.gunsfishing.com/ better. And if you can get there for the lunchtime special you'll enjoy it even more. The lunchtime special is between 11-2, IIRC, and for $22 you get the 9mm of your choice, a target, a box of ammo, eye/ear protection, you won't be able to beat that price anywhere. When I went I shot the S&W M&P9 and let me tell you, that gun is accurate as H E double hockey sticks. It was only my second time going to the range and second time ever shooting a gun and I loved the results. Since I only got 50 shots, and the mag held 10 rounds, I attempted to get 5 tight groupings on my target. Mission accomplished! All of my groupings could be covered by a grapefruit (each grouping). Not only was it accurate, the recoil on it was noticeably less than that of my S&W 909 which made my shooting hand very happy.

Unless you can get there for the lunchtime special, I'd suggest you drive the extra 5-10 minutes to The Shooting Gallery. Their prices are the best I've found yet, and you can even rent a gun w/Laser/optics for under $10.
