    Gary Cooper and Guns

Through a series of random internet browsing and link clicking, I stumbled upon this:

And this 1961 issue of guns magazine with a feature on Gary Cooper:

thought it was kinda cool and wanted to share.

In Silvio Calabi's book Hemingway's Guns, there is 2 pics of Gary and Papa at hemingway's ranch in Idaho. In one he carrys a Winchester Model 21and the other he carries Papas's Beretta S3.

There are many more pics in Lloyd Arnold's High on the Wild with Hemingway. Even a few with a bobcat he'd taken.

Page 4 of the link (GunsMagazine) reads 50 years ago like it was written yesterday.
        Thanks for sharing, great article.

          Nice Post, OP!
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Thanks for the memories.............He was one of my favorites, not to mention my grandmother's. She grew up in Iowa, Wyoming and Montana.

In 1953 she came to L.A. for a visit, I had broken my leg prior to her visit. We walked (I was on crutches) to the bus stop, to go see a movie, High Noon and African Queen. Little did I know at the time Gary Cooper was her favorite also. We ended up seeing it again the next day.

Brings back a lot of memories!

A great actor who still had a lot of good work left in him when he passed at age 60. Thanks for posting the link to that article.

Old Hollywood certainly was a better friend to us than today's Hollywood, or so it would seem. Men and women in film often had publicity photos taken of them engaged in the shooting sports and actively advocated them like Cooper.

Some of them even rocked Mossberg 500's back in the day.....

And John Wayne and John Ford condemned High Noon, easily the best Western ever made, for being un-American!

                    Yeah, that John Wayne.

I thought the same thing when I read it. It's amazing to see how little has changed in the community. Well, everything but the prices anyway. $80 for a garand???

Robert Stack was also a National Champion skeet shooter (came in 2nd). You can actually see him shoot in the movie "Bullfighter and the Lady" (1951) with Joy Page and Gilbert Roland.
