Glock 19 with RMR (Micro Red Dot Sight)

    Hello guys,

I have read the archived thread and just wanted to know if you guys have any updated inputs/advice on the proper use.

    Any problems with weapon presentation?
    Retraining an issue?
    Faster target acquisition?
Impact on other weapon platform? (does it degrade the use of non RMR pistols?)
Preference in sight/manufacturer? (I've ordered he TSR/trijicon combo, but was looking at the MRDS).

Just some simple questions. If anybody have other advice and opinion, please contribute. I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

    Jerry.

I'll chime in since I was running this setup for the past 8 months. These are my personal opinions, as others may differ who has run a similar setup.....

    Any problems with weapon presentation?
No problems at all. If you have a good RMR, then it'll be extremely rugged and you don't need to worry about finessing it.

    Retraining an issue?
No, not for me. Once I had the red dot co-witnessed with the suppressor sights, it was as simple as aligning everything up before I took the shot. That's it. Really felt no different than using a red dot on my rifle with iron sights.

    Faster target acquisition?
Initially on the first shot, not really. Well, not unless you train hours & hours on sighting in those suppressor sights fast. The trick is to align the suppressor sights onto the target, and then the red dot will appear for you. If you try to look for that red dot, you're going to be all over the place trying to find it and then zero it into the target. It just takes practice, but you can easily get used to it and get fast target acquisition.

The main thing is once you have the red dot in your sights, follow up shots are extremely fast and accurate, especially when you have multiple targets (steel plates for example). I wasn't as fast as the pro's you seen TV, but it was cool to hear 'ping ping ping ping' going pretty quickly when shooting with the RMR. Just have a good grip and stance, and the red dot will stay on your target for accurate and really fast follow up shots.

Impact on other weapon platform? (does it degrade the use of non RMR pistols?)
No, not at all. In fact I could easily transition from my Trijicon 3-dot sights to the supressor sights and RMR without any problems (just by swapping the slides on my G19). IMO, it's a trade off if you don't put a lot of hours into training with the RMR. The trade off being you can initially acquire a target faster with the regular sights than with the RMR, but then follow up shots on multiple targets aren't as fast. But again, this will vary between people and you just need to practice with it.

Preference in sight/manufacturer? (I've ordered he TSR/trijicon combo, but was looking at the MRDS).
I used the Trijicon RMR-A, and that's what most of the guys on the WarriorTalk forums are using (mostly all done & from the Suarez guys at One Source Tactical). They are hardcore into their weapons and setups, so you know they'll be running the top of the line stuff.... if that matters to you at all. Otherwise, most any 4 MOA to 8 MOA red dot sight mounted well onto your pistol will work just fine.

Now for the obligatory pics to show you what I was running

And now the fun pic I took while in TX . The taller sights and red dot really makes a difference when using a supressor.

        Thanks guys!!!

I was particularly worried about the target acquisition aspects, but Dave has put my mind at ease, specially with the suggestions.

Now, to the pistol-forum thread. thanks G60.
