    Body Armor

Most people here have some weapons chosen for a defensive reason. Intruder, SHTF etc,.

What about body armor? Is that part of your home defense plan?

Granted there's not usually time to gear up in such a scenario, but I'm thinking it would be good to have a set for me and the wife.

    Thoughts?

For SHTF, it would be better to have "house armor" (plywood over windows, block all doors but one, have a few sandbags, etc.). For home invasion it would be almost useless unless you wear it all the time.

Body armor would be best if you are out patrolling the streets of your neighborhood during SHTF. If that doesn't sound like something you'd do.... stock up on water and food first, then toilet paper/other supplies, guns and ammo last.

BUT! if you have the money and the desire for body armor, don't let me stop you from buying it

It would take too long to put on any body armor during a genuine home defense emergency in my opinion. I own IIIA soft plates, but can only see them coming into play during a select few scenarios. For example, if there is a long term loss of police services and me and my neighbors got together to setup a checkpoint on my street.

Hang one of these next to where you keep your HD gun and you are ready to go. Price is reasonable as well.

I recently picked up IIIA soft armor kevlar inserts new for under $300 each. They will fit the condor MOPC, so that's about $700 for an entire setup. Not cheap, but not cost prohibitive.

im in the process of buying a few vests, and i agree, in a regular home invasion, theyre close to useless. but in a SHTF scenario, i wouldnt mind having something to hold my mags and keep me protected when im making runs for food or clean water.

One of these would work pretty well. If you kept your pistol, some mags a light and your cell you would be pretty well set up for checking on those bumps in the night. The cost isn't unreasonable either

i have armor for me and my wife, i dont see using it in most HD scenarios. though it would be a pretty funny scene if the cops showed up and i was standing there naked except for my bullet proof vest.

maybe i should buy groin protection...
